I bought this amazing compact converter based upon other past reviews. I agree with the other reviewers that the Tivax STB-T8 converter does more for less, with or without the FREE $40 government coupon. It's a bargain with the coupon for only $10. As others have suggested, the converter picks up more channels than my standard TV receiver. I'm going to buy a second one since it works beyond my expectations.
The only negative item might be the converter's power button, with or without the remote, has a delay of several seconds in turning the converter on. The remote is user friendly and works satisfactory. Instruction manual is easy to understand. Thanks to Amazon for offering this converter at a low price!

Works as advertised. It appears to be solidly constructed and well thought out. Good features, especially the signal strength meter. I also like the button on the remote that changes the aspect ratio of the display -- very convenient.
I was surprised to see how many digital channels I could get -- I went from one good analog channel to 60 digital channels after installation. For the antenna, all you will probably need is a regular UHF antenna (the round loop, not the rabbit ears). I have always used a powered antenna, but did not need to buy a new antenna. The digital signal is quite directional, so the signal strength meter helps a lot in finding the right angle to place the antenna at.

Tivax STB-T8 Digital to Analog TV Converter Box This is the second digital converter box I've bought from Amazon (the other was the Consumer Reports favorably rated ChannelMaster). Both units are on a par insofar as channel signal pickup, ease of use, and picture quality (absolutely great). Both also have signal-strength meters, which is handy if you're using rabbit ears or the like, as I am with this unit. The only field in which this unit is superior is aesthetics; it's much thinner and stylish, not much thicker than a book. This one's a winner, provided you don't need S-feed hookup.Customer Review: best converter for elderly & low vision

this digital tv conversion has really presented a problem for the elderly, low vision, and people with certain disablilities. my grandmother is 88 yrs old, legal blind and has arthritis. she is not able to use a remote control. this was the only converter that i was able to find in our price range that had channel change buttons on the unit itself. it was also important that they be located on the top of the unit as opposed to the front. therefore, she is able to push down on the buttons and the unit will not fall off her tv stand.
this was very easy to install. have had no problems and am able to pick up many stations.
very pleased and would highly recommend.

Unboxed the Tivax unit and had it hooked up to my TV within 10 min. It works with basic rabbit ears (from RCA)that I already owned. If you're stuck having to buy a conversion box, this is a very safe bet based on the easy set up and quality picture.
My only suggestion to Tivax would be to improve the quality of their instruction manual. I'd rate it 6 out of 10...luckily the process is fairly simple.
Comment on Amazon: I tried to buy 2 at the same time using my $40 coupons but I couldn't get the Amazon system to recognize more than 1 coupon at a time. Subsequently bought them in two different transactions.
