Customer Review: A TV convertor box you should buy

At a net $10, after a discount to $49 from $79 and a discount card from Uncle Sams' FCC, this is a MUST have box. You get a state of the art tuner that works better than any of the built-in tuners on the new TVs - more on-the air channels. It also tunes the music broadcasts in the TV bands and can put this signal out to the music or theater system without turning on the room-heating TV (even an LCD TV uses considerable power.) The remote control is small, easier to use than most, and when used on the TV shows very clearly what it is doing. Be a little bit green- keep using the old TV where the picture is still decent. It will have better pictures than ever with this tuner. All the different digital formats come through fine. Even at $79, this would be a reasonable device.
The only downside - you will have two remotes and should turn off both the TV and the STB-T8 tuner when not in use.

I've been using the converter box for 2 weeks now and I'm very pleased with it.
I ordered the box from Amazon with next day shipping and received it less than 24 hours later. Setup and scanning took less than 5 minutes total. I was able to get about 24 channels (a few of them are in Spanish so they're of no use to me). The picture quality is excellent. I have experienced some pixelating, but after I repositioned the antenna, the picture cleared up. I also like the guide and signal information. The price is another plus (I used my gov't coupon so that made it even better).
I've read other complaints about the slight delay when turning the box on and when changing channels but those are minor non-issues for me.
This is the first and only converter box I've used and I see no need to try anything else at this time. I highly recommend it.

Several years ago when Digital TV started becoming available, I bought an expensive HDTV Tuner to try out the technology. I was very, very disappointed with that tuner and it still doesn't bring in but a few stations. Therefore, I was very skeptical when I bought the Tivax STB-T8. However, it received reasonably good reviews in published reports so I bought it to give it a try.
Wow, what a surprise! I now get all the stations I wanted before and couldn't get! In my area, if I use analog, ghosts are everywhere and the picture just isn't watchable - but with Digital TV and this set-top converter box, my digital picture is perfect and I can now extend the life of a TV set I thought would be useless.
I would buy this again and I would recommend this to my friends. It is a good digital tv converter box and well worth the money in my opinion.

The previous reviewer was upset about the high price Amazon charges - not about the converter's performance. I purchased two of these from another online vendor using the coupons and ended up paying an additional $45.00, so about $60.00 a piece. If you want quality, you have to pay for it. This model received high praise from Consumer Reports and I agree with them. The picture is as clear as a DVD and the sound is really good too on most stations. The stations without super sound probably has more to do with the broadcaster than the box. The remote has a number of useful buttons. Very simple to set up. The colors are a bit more intense so you may need to adjust your TV set again. I received about 30 stations initially, but deleted ten or so since they were in other languages. Very happy with my puchase. Highly recommended.Customer Review: Excellent picture

My first converter box was a Zenith DTT900. It died exactly 92 days after purchase which was 2 days after the full warranty expired - very displeased. Instead of paying Zenith the $35 they wanted to fix it, I ordered a 2nd coupon and bought the Tivax. Wow, the color is brighter and the picture is noticeably more sharp than the Zenith on the same TV. My whole family noticed it right away. Almost made me glad the Zenith died - almost. I'm very pleased with the Tivax. The only thing the Zenith has over the Tivax is that the Zenith remote can be programmed to turn on the TV so you don't need 2 remotes to watch TV. Of course, that doesn't help much if the box is dead.
I must add that although I love Amazon and their service, this box is overpriced here. It's available for less elsewhere.
