Digital Cameras Photo Reviews of TiVo TCD652160 HD Digital Video RecorderCustomer Review: It's TIVO - need I say more? Summary: 5 Stars
This is a TIVO. If you have a TIVO you know it's great. If you don't have a TIVO then you just need to buy one. There is no way to understand exaclty how great it is unless you use it. If you are currently using any other DVR then imagine something 100 times better than what you have now. The only down fall I see of this particular TIVO is that you can ONLY use the cable cards. PLEASE double check your provider before you buy. Although we did and COMCAST said we could get them. So we ordered this TIVO and then ordered a tech to come install the cable card. On the morning the tech was supposed to come Comcast called and said that the cards would not work in our area (we are in the country). I explained that we purchased a TIVO because they said they would work and the Tech needed to come try anyway. After several conversations with different people at comcast they sent the tech anyway. Turns out that the computer still said that they didn't work in our area and the tech didn't really know anything about installing them (not his fault I'm sure. You don't know if they don't train you). He did great and just followed the directions and it worked perfectly on the first attempt. So, be prepared for some difficulty - if you can get everything to work though it is so worth it. Also, TIVO does offer lifetime subscription again. Which is also well worth it. A little more up front but pays off big in the long run.
Customer Review: TiVoHD is still the best DVR on the planet. Summary: 5 Stars
Well, at this point, I've tried many setups to digitally record TV, from TiVo Series 1, to various iterations of ReplayTV, the ever-evolving Windows Media Center (WMC) platform, and a slew of completely wretched cable company DVRs. But I always seem to come back to TiVo. And, while monthly fees are the ever-present albatross of the TiVo experience, it is still the best product out there (at least until the Ceton cablecard tuners make WMC a viable option for recording protected content and accessing across multiple TVS). With a simple, intuitive interface, the best software for resolving recording conflicts, decent expandability options and good build quality, not to mention the highest Wife Acceptance Factor (WAF) on the planet, TiVo remains king. My TiVos have been good to me, and I love them for it. While I still tinker with other solutions and yearn for additional features (perhaps a USB port with DivX and XVid support would be a nice addition) for my TiVo, it is still the primary source of content for my HDTVs. I love the unlimited free Netflix VOD-streaming (with Netflix subscription), and Music Choice video downloads, and appreciate the large libraries of BlockBuster and Amazon VOD pay-per-view offerings that are available. And, while I'd love to play around with a Moxi, I'm not willing to give up my TiVos or shell out $800 for that privilege at this time.
Customer Review: You've come a long way TiVO Summary: 5 Stars
I am a TiVo freak, having had TiVo since it's first incarnation (have had the Series 2 for many years) and was holding out for the HD version. Well worth the wait. Aside from having to deal with my cable company to get the cable cards, set-up was easy as pie and the results are terrific (Hint: if the cable office is close by you can pick them up and install them yourself - saves time/hassle and money by not having to set aside half a day for them to arrive at which point they then complain about how they don't know/service TiVo and since they have their own DVR how about taking that instead). The ability to watch/record two channels at once without an A/B set-up is a huge plus and this one holds so much more than my Series 2. The HD quality is excellent and they have maintained all the other features such as Wishlists etc. (and added others)- For my money this DVR is far superior and easier to navigate than other DVRs including Dish (which I had for 3 weeks before I went running back begging for my TiVO). The stores I went to were sold out (which speak volumes) but then I found out that Amazon had a better price, free shipping and it arrived in 3 days. I am a happy camper. Come to the dark side, get your TiVO HD asap - you won't be sorry (although your family may never see you again for all the shows that will be waiting for you)
Customer Review: Great HD DVR Summary: 5 Stars
I bought this because I started to miss all my favorite shows now that my schedule at work has changed. It was way better than I expected.
I have cable but the main shows I watch I recieve via HD over the air for free. I wanted to record shows that I miss every night now that I work night shift. The cable came for free with my internet access but this product would be great even without cable since it acts as an HD Tuner.
It records everything I program plus the TIVO Suggestion feature that records things based on my opinions of shows and other things I record is fantastic. I have found shows that I forgot were ever on TV that I love watching along with new shows that I probably never would have heard of.
Plus if you connect the TIVO to a home network with internet access (I did this with the Wireless network adapter available seperatly) you can download movies and shows (kind of like Pay Per View). Also with the internet access you do not need a phone line to make your TIVO work, although you can still use a phone line if needed.
I highly recomend it and love the fact that once my cable introductory offer expires I can cancel cable and still record all the HD shows that I usually watch for only a small TIVO fee, I paid for a year subscription in advance for about $10 a month.
Great Buy.
Customer Review: Free TV for over 2 years! Summary: 5 Stars
I believe if most folks knew how incredible the digital picture is with these units, they would drop satelite/cable in a heartbeat. We realized almost 3 yrs ago that 90% of what we DVR'd, was the standard free TV stations. So, when digital came along, I bought a very small outside antenna to see how many stations and what quality they would be. When the scan complete (Dallas/Ft.Worth) I had picked up over 50 channels! The HD picture is as good if not better than my old satelite hd programming. So, we dropped our provider ($75 month) and bought our first Tivo box from Amazon. Bought the lifetime service pack with it so we could record 2 programs at a time and have the tv guide feature. With buying the lifetime service, the tivo box, and my antenna, I spent around $550. Needless to say, in 8 to 9 months we had paid for this investment and since have been enjoy true free tv. However, if you are hung up on a program on cable, you can go to amazon/tivo on the web, and buy a season pass for whatever show you want for $1.89 an episode. Example, we love The Closer...so we just download it straight to our Tivo via our wireless connection on the computer! If I was a wee bit smarter and knew how to tell folks about this in an easier way, I would start up my own company and sell this service everywhere!
