Digital Cameras Photo Reviews of TiVo TCD652160 HD Digital Video RecorderCustomer Review: BEST DVR ON THE MARKET !!!!!!!! from an 8-Year Tivo Customer Summary: 5 Stars
I had a Series 1 Tivo for about 8 years, I was very happy with it. Since I recently got a Sony Bravia HDTV, I switched to this HD Tivo. Here is why I am very happy:
-Amazon delivered it in only 3 calendar days even though I used Free Super saver shipping.
-I love the hardware of this Tivo, it looks sophisticated, it has lots of input and output options. Has component and HDMI for HD. The remote signal is strong. You can connect by Telephone line or Etnernet.
-I got the lifetime subscription, this is one of the best things about Tivo. Even though the price is higher up front, after a few months the service is free. Unlike cable or sateillte DVR's where you keep paying monthly fees each month. So with cable and sateillte DVR's, it actually costs much more in the long term.
-This Tivo also has a lot online options like watching movies via Netflix, Amazon.com, etc.
-Another thing great about this Tivo compared to the Series 1 is that the picture quality is same as watching directly from antenna or cable. With my previous Tivo, the picture quality was slightly worse. But with this HD Tivo, you can't tell the difference. Since HD is digital, I guess there is no loss in picture quality.
-I also love the Dual Tuner, I can record two programs at the same time. Also I don't have to worry about programs overlapping unless you happen to record 3 different programs at the same time!
-I can also program the Tivo to record remotely from outside the home via the internet. You can do this from Tivo.com, Yahoo.com or others. You can program 5 minutes before the show begins.
There is a reason why Tivo owners are so loyal to Tivo, also why the satisfaction rate is so high for Tivo. Tivo is the original DVR on the market, it has the best overall value, user interface and service. I recommend HD Tivo to anyone who has HDTV!!!
Customer Review: TIVO works flawlesly for us Summary: 5 Stars
I am very pleased with our new TIVO HD DVR. This is our second TIVO, the first purchased over seven years ago. We upgraded to the HD because we now have an HD television. Set up was a breeze. Comcast sent two techs out and they had the multistream card working fine in just twenty minutes. To date I have had no issues with either the DVR or Cable card. My condolances to those of you who have had problems with this device. I however found the install, setup and use to be very easy. Perhaps the fact that I have used TIVO for years made it easier for me. The only suggestion that I would make for those who buy a DVR and are on Comcast that you be sure to impress upon the person taking the phone order for the cable card install to be sure to send experianced people to do the install of the cable cards. I know several people have complained about the advertizing, but you do not have to look at it. There is a menu item and all you do is ignore it if you do not want to see it. Since we already had the TIVO service I was not sure how to discontinue the old machine and activate the new one. It was so easy. Go to the TIVO website and all you have to do is change the "service number" to the one on your new TIVO. it is just that easy. I love the dual tuner. We are avid Trail Blazer fans, but had to miss recording some shows when games were on in HD so we could use the cable box for the game. Now we record both and start watching the game about an hour after it starts so we can fast forward through the timeouts and especially the commercials. We also can back up to see a play again to verify if the NBA refs continue to show a lack of skill. Don't get me started on that issue!!!
Any way we love the new TIVO HD it is everything we expected and well worth the money.
Customer Review: Tivo- best DVR on the market... by far! Summary: 5 Stars
Tivo is leagues above your cable provider's DVR box. It is really the little things that make Tivo better, a lot of little things. First off you have the great looking interface and audio feedback. The menu system is a pleasure to navigate compared to your cable provider's DVR box. The TV Guide in Tivo is a great design providing the next 2 weeks of shows, updated nightly, to your screen. You can hook up your home computer to Tivo and have it play your home videos, pictures and music library and play them on your home theater system. Once you connect Tivo to the web, you get many more goodies such as Netflix "Instant Watch" movie downloads (if you are a Netflix member), you can browse for movie show times in your local area and buy movie tickets through Fandango. You can browse YouTube and watch the videos right on your TV. You can even order pizza off of your Tivo Series III. Another great feature is when you are going to record a live sporting event, Tivo will ask you if you want to add extra time to the recording so that you won't miss the very end and you can record an unexpected overtime. Tivo has an 8 second jump back feature that works instantly without hesitation even when pressed multiple times. It has a jump forward 30 seconds feature to help skip annoying commercials. You can record non-copyrighted TV and movies and have them transferred to your home computer and converted then put on your iPod with Tivo To Go. You can also increase the hard drive size by connecting an eSATA external hard drive so you can store more gigabytes of HD movies and HD TV. You can't go wrong with a Tivo Series III.
Customer Review: So Much Better Than the Cable Company DVR Summary: 5 Stars
I've been a TiVo user for seven years, now. When we got a Plasma HDTV, last year, I naturally wanted a Series 3 TiVo. However, I could not justify the $800 price tag - especially when the cable company HD DVR appeared to be only $5 per month.
However, the cable company DVR turned out to be an exercise in frustration; it sometimes lost everything it had recorded, had an awkward interface, and, on a couple of occasions, was entirely inoperable. We ended up recording many shows on two DVR's - on the cable company's (for HD) and on our Series 2 TiVo as a backup.
When the HDTV TiVo was released, I did the math and ordered one. After selling our Series 2 (with a lifetime subscription) and getting rid of the cable company DVR, we are actually saving about $1 per month. This includes the cost of the new TiVo and a 3 year subscription. It turned out that we were paying about $12 a month for the combination cable box/DVR. This is now replaced by two cable cards costing just $1.50 per month total.
We are very happy with the HDTV TiVo. Other than a little less storage, the unit seems to be every bit as capable as my friend's Series 3 for several hundred dollars less. Instead of dealing with 3 remotes for the TV / DVR (cable DVR, TiVo Series 2, TV remote to switch inputs), we now control it all with the HDTV remote.
The only downside I see is that the cable box gave us on demand movies in HD including some free ones. However, with Amazon Unbox and TiVo, we can get standard resolution movies on demand. I'm hopeful that there will HD offerings on Unbox eventually.
Customer Review: Tivo rocks!!! TivoHD rocks like there's no tomorrow!!! Summary: 5 Stars
I've been a Tivo fan since I got a Series 2 for Christmas 2005. I upgraded from a single tuner to dual tuner in October 2006, and then I stepped up to the TivoHD in September 2007. WOW!
I didn't get cable cards at first. Comcast rebroadcasts all the local stations and MOJO via QAM, so I was setting up manual recordings for any HD programs I wanted to record. This worked great and I was totally happy the way things were.
Then in January I found out Comcast finally had M-cards so I picked one up and did the install myself. WOW, so much more! Local HDs plus many more HD stations (ESPN, TNT, HDT, MOJO, UHD, MTV, A&E, FOOD, HGTV, USA, TBS, HSTR, DSC, SCIFI, ANPL) and the nearly 50 digital music channels.
I immediately found my appetite for HD programming was quickly outgrowing the 20 hour recording limitation on the TivoHD. So I bought a 750Gb hard drive and I now have 107 hours of recording space. That has more than satisfied my spatial needs.
If you don't know anything about Tivo, you pay a monthly fee to receive the program information for the stations you receive. Tivo stores two weeks of info. You can browse this info in the onscreen guide (to see what's on today thru two weeks from today), you can search for a specific title, anything with a specific actor, or director, or genre, or even keyword (or any combination of these). You can set up a Season Pass so anytime a particular show comes on, Tivo records it for you!
All Tivo are a huge step up from the VCR era, but if you have a HDTV, you MUST have a TivoHD.
