Digital Cameras Photo Reviews of TiVo TCD648250B Series3 HD Digital Media RecorderCustomer Review: The reliability issue Summary: 5 Stars
We got our Series 3 in February of 2007. It has given us over 3 years of flawless service. I won't go into how superior it is to other DVRs; that has been covered. I will just say that Comcast issued us our cable cards with no trouble (!) and this box has delivered trouble-free service ever since. Must re-start every few months when it gets slow. Additionally, The external SATA Western Digital drive we bought at Costco installed easily and has worked without trouble.
I looked at some of the one-star reviews. People are more likely to review when something goes wrong because anger is a great motivator. Obviously, there is a chance you'll get a lemon, but given the preponderance of 5-star reviews, It is well worth the gamble.
A note: the Comcast installer who hooked up our (thankfully temporary) Comcast HD DVR used composite cables and proudly presented us with a standard def. picture. Where do they find these guys? Rather than complain, I just hooked up an HDMI cable after he left.
Customer Review: We are card carrying members of the "TiVolution." Summary: 5 Stars
My husband talked me into TiVo when we got our first one, about 5 years ago. I was a skeptic, but was brought into the light of dvr technology within hours of owning it. We were dedicated TiVo people for 3.5 years. We finally got a high definition TV, and our little TiVo couldn't manage it, so it went to live with my parents, and they became TiVotees too. For 18 LOOOOOOONG months I suffered with a cable company issued HD DVR. And I do mean SUFFERED. It was like night and day.
We decided to splurge, and for a combination of gift-giving holidays, we bought the Series 3, and walked back into the light. I had no idea how much I missed my TiVo. Sniff! I got a little emotional when the little antennaed-footed TV started dancing for me in the orientation clips. TiVo has a personality about it, in addition to being the friendliest user interface and highest available software heuristic DVR on the market.
Save up your money if you have to, and BY THIS DVR.
Customer Review: There is NO substitute for the real TIVO!! Summary: 5 Stars
We went from a DirecTV Tivo (good) to a Dish Network DVR (bad!) to a ReplayTV (Moved to an apartment)... We longed for the Tivo, but I held off on it waiting for the Series 3 to come out. If you have HD digital cable then this is THE DVR to own!
My Charter cable card install was flawless and it has worked great for over a year now. Be aware, you do not get On-Demand features via the Tivo but I do not care, that is what Amazon Unbox video to Tivo is for.
The Tivo offers more than a DVR, its internet features are vast. I use an open-source program on a PC media server to stream all kinds of video up to the Tivo (pyTivo is the program). I am able to pull stuff off the Tivo to archive or watch on my phone. We stream our MP3 music collection and listen to podcasts. Tivo is the centerpiece of our home entertainment system. TV without a Tivo just plain stinks... So glad the S3 finally arrived last Xmas!! Do get a 500VA APC backup just for your Tivo, it is a computer...
Customer Review: TiVo TCD648250B Series3 HD Digital Media Recorder Summary: 5 Stars
The TiVo Series 3 HD recorder has easy to setup instructions and all the cables that you will need to hook-up the recorder. The Series 3 TiVo has a complete display that shows the name of the program being recorded even when you are not using the DVR. The TiVo HD recorder that is less expensive, but this low cost HD TiVo does not include all the cables and does not have the program being recorded displayed on the display even while viewing the program. I use the wireless TiVo AG0100 to update programming through my cable network and to transfer programs from one TiVo to the other. The only draw back was that it took our Time Warner Local Cable service three trips before both cable cards would work probably. Once both cable cards were programmed and working, we have not had any other problems. Time Warner did not charge us for these extra trips to get the cable cards working and did a fantastic effort to get them working!
Customer Review: Simply The Best!!!!!! Summary: 5 Stars
Incredible! Perfect! TiVo just gets better and better! I love this DVR! I started out a month ago with standard cable and a HD antenna, and it was great. Picture was perfect, stations even tuned in from San Francisco, and I'm in Sacramento. Comcast installed my 2 CableCards yesterday, and I was a little nervous based on the comments I have read online regarding issues with the cards and the TiVo box (hours and hours of phone calls, starting over and over again, appointment after appointment), even the Comcast reps were not confident that my install would go smoothly (more horror stories were relayed to me, based on their experience). To my suprise we were done in 20 minutes! I did have to insist on following the instructions included in the box. Maybe that's the trick! Now all I need is the TiVoToGo and Multi-Room Viewing features to be released. Buy it! Get it! You won't be disappointed! My TiVo Gets Me!
