Digital Cameras Photo Reviews of RCA EZ201 Small Wonder 60 Minute Point-and-Shoot Camcorder (White)Customer Review: Very cool, just add an SD card & rechargable batteries Summary: 4 Stars
We need to record 2hr meetings - this is small, cheap, easy to use, decent quality picture in HQ, OK quality in LP. The built-in 512MB memory is limiting, we got a 2GB SD card for under thirty that adds space for recording more. It uses up a pair of AA batteries in one hour. We got four rechargables so we can record for two hours. There's no mic jack but the built-in mic is very good, it's sensitive enough to pick up speech at 12ft. The built-in USB jack and six inch USB extension cable make it easy to connect to the computer to copy the AVI movie files. The software included in the camera is not required if you know how to copy a file from one drive to another. We think the EZ201 can replace our old VHS camcorders.
Customer Review: EZ 201 works as advertised Summary: 4 Stars
It worked without major problems. Videos are adequate quality.
Problem areas:
It is difficult to see the screen in daylight outside, particularly on sunny days. My wife and I both took long videos of the ground thinking we had turned the thing to stand by. It would have helped to have it make different sounds when shooting video vs going to stand by. For all I know it does, I am half deaf.
Adobe Elements 6 makes only a generic Thumbnail of each video. I don't know if that is a problem with Adobe or RCA?
Overall I rate this little devise higher than the much talked about Flip which lacks the SD card slot. Sound is acceptable.
Good luck with yours.
Customer Review: Good camcorder Summary: 4 Stars
I wasn't looking for anything expensive or fancy, just something that could get the job done. After looking at a few other brands, I settled on this one. I bought this video camera to record my training sessions and critique form on all my heavy lifts, and to date it has done a great job. It is small, easy to use, has OK video quality and comes with a USB extension so you don't have to worry about the connector getting all torqued up when it's hooked into the computer. The only complaint I have, and it is to be expected with any tech product, is that the RCA eats battery power like a kid in a candy store. Do yourself a favor and buy some rechargeable batteries.
Customer Review: perfect for what I need Summary: 4 Stars
I bought another Small Wonder about a year ago and it could only take 30 minutes of video with no memory card slot. I liked it but needed more time, so I returned it and got another camcorder. I did not like the other and missed the Small Wonder. I was very happy when I found this model becuase it does have a memory card. I think I've added 2 GB to this camera so I'll be set for Europe! I love the size, picture quality, and extra storage. I am not a professional nor do I use this all the time. It is perfect for the times I do use it. Not into high tech, so don't use this review to buy if you want something more complicated.
Customer Review: Perfect for my purpose. Summary: 4 Stars
We do lots of hiking, hunting, and fishing. We have an expensive digital video camera, but it requires a too much care and protection and doesn't allow the user to do anything but film. Now we have a camera that fits neatly in a pocket, vest, or small bag. I can fish, hunt and film all in the same day! Easy to use, easy to review and delete and refilm. Compared to the Flip the Small Wonder with memory card has ample room to record for a full day out in the woods. My only complaint is the direction issue with sound, but that is a small issue for the convenience. We love it!
