Digital Cameras Photo Reviews of RCA EZ201 Small Wonder 60 Minute Point-and-Shoot Camcorder (White)

Customer Review: Nifty Little Cam Corder Device with lots of storage !!!
Summary: 5 Stars

RCA and Amazon have come up with a really nifty way to record simply put and get the job done.

The RCA device mentioned herein has built in memory, additional add-on storage capability, a way to move files from the internal memory and also a way to be seen as a hard disk in your windows explorer window and copy high capacity, and good definition video files as well as using aftermarket frame capture software for pictures to send to friends. It also has built in software that updates directly from RCA using the built in internal storage without any fuss or muss at all whatsoever !!!

This little baby can get a simple job done, SIMPLY and is a joy to use in a variety of operations. If you want to use a little extra space and not email or store videos on the web, you can go directly into the memory of this unit and save a higher quality video and use additional purchase software such as a frame grabber from video to get small photos directly from the video that this unit shoots. Windows media player loads these videos directly into your screen on any windows pc as well !!!

My wife and I are going to buy several additional units of this RCA camcorder to give as gifts in China to our relatives and I am bringing ours to shoot video on the additional purchased memory cards from Amazon, incidentally at the best price on the internet, and save a lot to bring home and share with friends when we return back to America.

China is a wondrous land and this little baby will come in handy with its zoom feature to see some good video of Beijing, and Xi'an so we can play them for family in Nanchang City where my lovely China Doll is from originally !!!

I have found that nickel metal hydride batteries are great for the unit and easy to charge, so I bring several sets with me when I want to use the camcorder.

The controls are easy as child's play and I love the digital sound as well. The screen is clear and works well out of sunlight, but is also great to view shading with a hand outside as well.

Another great feature is its ability to hook up the video and audio directly to a tv set and play full screen videos for all the family to see and hear as well.

I would never buy another except for this one. The upgrade I did from RCA service net connection went smooth as silk as well.

Overall I have wonderful simple experiences with this great little unit.

Customer Review: I own this and the Flip Ultra Series
Summary: 5 Stars

I bought this camera last year, but had already owned the Flip Ultra Series 60 minute camera. I liked the concept of the Flip camera, but I didn't like the fact that it only recorded up to 60 minutes.

I then found this one, and at that time it only cost $98.00, so I went out and purchased this one. I found that they were very similar, but this one has the LCD screen that flips out, so you can actually record yourself. I liked that feature, but what I really liked was the fact that this one takes a SD card, and you can increase your recording time. That was the main reason I bought this camera.

I never had any problem uploading videos to my computer with either one of the cameras, so I can't say anything negative about that. They are both compact in size, and that is a great feature. The video quality on the Flip was just a little bit better then this one, but not enough that it is that noticeable. I noticed that whenever I needed a camcorder, I found myself using this one. I ended up giving the Flip Ultra Series camera to my sister because it was just sitting around, and she mentioned that she wished that she had a small camcorder like these. So I gave it to her, and she still has it and loves it. So if I had to choose between the RCA Small Wonder and the Flip Ultra Series, then this one would be my choice, because this is the one I used the most, and still use it even now.

Customer Review: Good quality video and easy to use
Summary: 5 Stars

I just got back from a family trip to a lodge. I took the Small Wonder and my Sony miniDV camcorder. I got the Small Wonder from Amazon in the mail the week before so this was it first real test. I did not even get the Sony out the whole weekend. I have it set to the highest quality setting. I shot lots of video indoors and at night and this is an old Lodge that we rented so I would consider these low light situations. The video turned out very good. I was very impressed. The quality is lower than the Sony miniDV but not noticeably. I have placed the video on my 19 inch computer screen and my 61 inch TV. I just knew it would look grainy on the big screen but it looks very good.
One other point I love: I plugged the camera into the USB port and downloaded the video. It took maybe 5 minutes. It is now on my computer, in the right format. This would have taken me at least an hour to go from camcorder(miniDV) to computer with my Sony.
oh, one more point: We went fishing over the weekend. Normally I would not have taken any camcorder since I would not want to lug it around or take the chance of breaking it but I dropped the RCA Small Wonder into my pocket and got my 4 year old son catching his first fish.
I have yet to burn a DVD with the video but am looking forward to that.
I highly recommend the Small Wonder. It may not replace your normal camcorder but I think it is a great supplement.

Customer Review: Great bang for the buck!
Summary: 5 Stars

Look, if you want professional grade video out of a $100 digital video recorder, you will be disappointed. If you want a convenient media recorder for personal fun, quick business recordings, web video, etc, then this is a great asset. Point, shoot, upload, edit, move on. It's just a little bigger than an iPod, can be attached to a tripod, lasts for a few hours on standard AA batteries, and uploads right to a PC. The built-in software is OK but nothing to brag about. It is very basic. Now, the unit's compression uses a DivX codec. If you want to work with the avi files that it creates OR if you want to share the raw, larger file and higher quality, video with someone else, you must have DivX installed on the system. It's free and easy to get for a PC or Mac. So, no big deal there but I can see how some non-savvy people could get confused or frustrated. There is a built-in tool to convert videos to WMV. I took this on a two week trip to Italy and had a blast recording sites, commentary, panoramic shots, etc. I have used it at the park with my kids, at conferences, to record meetings, etc. This is a MUST for convenience. If you want to do something like start a vlog or post video to YouTube, this is perfect. It's a fun and functional piece but not a $700+ DV camcorder.

Customer Review: I love this unit !
Summary: 5 Stars

I own five other video cameras (plus the "camera" found on our cellphones) and although this RCA won't win any awards for quality recordings, it's great to slip into your pocket or have in your car, for those times when lugging along the "good videocamera" is just impractical or you just don't want to bother.
I have taken so many priceless videos with this camera, which ordinarily would have been "lost" because I didn't have one of my other, bulkier cameras with me.
You can let the kids use it without fear of damage, and you can take it discretely into places that don't normally allow video cameras.
I live in Mexico City and sometimes go to areas where I'd rather not look conspicuously like a tourist or like someone carrying something valuable; and this camera is perfect for that.

The fact that it uses standard AA batteries, plus that it takes additional memory cards (really cheap right now) is a very nice feature.

The only thing I don't like about it is that it can be turned on accidentally while it's in your pocket or purse; to prevent that, I just reverse one of the batteries.
