Digital Cameras Photo Reviews of Digital Blue: QX3 MicroscopeCustomer Review: INTEL, BRING THESE BACK PLEASE! Summary: 5 Stars
I kid you not, I overheard two Ph.D's talking. One was discribing this fantastic new microscope he'd just purchased for field work. 200x, timelapse, movie, illuminate from above or below...the other doc just HAD to get one, who makes it? Why intel, it's a TOY and sells for under a hundred bucks. I went back to my computer and ordered one that day...and my only regret is that I didn't order one for every kid I know. My five year old is absolutely fascinated by this subject! did you know bees wings have hair on them? She didn't(well, I didn't either!), but now we have photos! want to see what's swimming in that stagnant water? We have movies! This is the best educational toy I've ever seen! Software works perfectly on my xp machine, unit is plug-and-play. the only problem is that the scope didn't fit snugly in the base, so I shimmed it with a strip of cardboard. You can morph, paint and email your collection to grandma! Software is incredibly robust...not simply a viewer, and easy for youngsters to use! It's been discontinued by Intel so they're getting tougher to find, and that's too bad! get one while you can!*update* !Digital blue has brought these back for christmass 2002!
Customer Review: A Gem of a Research Tool Summary: 5 Stars
We use this microscope in our R&D lab at a large federal facility. It is easy to use and gives quality computer generated color photos that are great for rapid examination, presentations and quality control. This is actually an excellent instrument for conducting routine surface analysis, and defect scanning for a variety of materials and surface mount electronics. This little "toy" is an excellent cost effective tool for any lab. It is easy to use with simple software and USB port. Where else can you get a tough CCD USB ported transmission and reflection microscope with three magnification levels that you can use with any computer for under [price]? As a senior scientist/R&D program manager, I purchased this in liu of a [money]+ microscope and have not been disappointed. No additional camera need or film to develop, the photos are "cut and paste" into Powerpoint and Word or e-mailed. This scope cost me less than one service call to "on-site technition support" for our larger equipment, and is still working great after 3 years. Excellent Job Intel and Mattel!
Customer Review: The super QX3 Microscope Summary: 5 Stars
I have looked at much pricier camera style microscopes on the net, and was surprised to find this awesome unit aimed at the younger sets' maarket. I'm a kid at heart (30 + years old) and into collecting a lot of stuff that I often need to peruse for a date or mfg.'s mark. I'm also a mechanic so I often need to examine a part for a flaw. I'm also an artist, and find this units' software just awesome and easy to use as it's aimed at the younger set. I am also into digital photography, and it's capability of importing and exporting files is just unreal. I wouldn't be without this unusually well designed instrument, which I believe should be also marketed to all ages. This remarkable instrument was originally designed and developed by INTEL, and the license only recently sold for this line of products when they decided on building silicon circuits, exclusively, in 2002. You'll love it, and won't know how you managed without it.
Customer Review: excellent for the price Summary: 5 Stars
We got this microscope a few months ago and it has seen a lot of use since then. Digital is a great feature for kids because they can see it on a screen instead of squinting into an eyepiece. You get a lot for the price -- a decent digital microscope with up to 200x magnification, a digital camera (with a mode that functions as a low-res video camera, including a time lapse feature), and some photo editing software. The kids (particularly the 7 year old) have had a ton of fun looking at bugs, everyday objects, etc. The microscope also detaches from the stand so you can aim it inside your ear (or whatever) if you are so inclined. It's clearly not a professional microscope, but for the price it is a great introduction to the world of the very small.
Customer Review: Superb Toy for a Science Laboratory Summary: 5 Stars
Digital Blue QX3 Microscope is not only a superb toy, but also, a very useful addition to science laboratories. I am buying the instrument for using it in my laboratory, in the Biomedical Engineering Institute, Academic Health center, University of Minnesota. I will be using it to digitalize various experimental objects for future reference, as well as for demonstrations to my industry clients and students and PowerPoint presentations. Looking forward to working with this fun toy. Gundu H. R. Rao Professor, Biomedical Engineering Institute Academic Health Center, University of Minnesota Minneapolis, Minnesota 55455
