Digital Cameras Photo Reviews of iGo Stowaway Ultra-Slim Bluetooth Keyboard for PDAs and HandheldsCustomer Review: Awesome Little Keyboard... Summary: 5 Stars
I bought this keyboard based on many of the reviews on Amazon, though I was a little worried because I own Palm TX. Well, my worries were all for naught. :-)
When I got the keyboard, I downloaded the driver for the TX and was off and running. It is so much easier to use the keyboard than trying to do everything with the stylus. Because getting data into my pda is so much easier, the pda can do at least 80% of what I need a PC for -- Email, basic word processing, basic web surfing, and time management.
There is a bit of a learning curve associated with this keyboard. To keep everything compact most of the keys do double (or even triple) duty. Learning to use the FN keys in combination with another key can be a bit of a pain, but is worth it.
The size is also just short of perfect. It folds up into a nice little rectangle and slips into its case. I could quibble a bit on it being a "full-sized" keyboard. My fingers from time to time hit the wrong keys, because they don't quite match the size of the ones on my computers keyboard. This drawback is to me extremely minor.
So far the keyboard has proven pretty durable. The leather case and metal outside help see to that. I tote it to and from work everyday in a junk laden purse. The kids like it too, and one of them wants one for their own PDA. I expect this thing will still work like a charm at the end of the summer.
Customer Review: Superb Technological Achievement Summary: 5 Stars
You know how it goes. You read about this cutting-edge piece of technology that all the tech reviewers are swooning over, allegedly manufactured to the highest standards from the finest materials known to man. So you bite and then it self-destructs within days and/or never performs even close to the level you were lead to expect.
The Think Outside Stowaway Bluetooth Keyboard is the absolute antithesis of the above. It's a reassuringly solid, well-designed piece of technology that works so well that it feels like you're getting way more than you paid for.
For its size it's extremely solid, suggesting lots of metal, a good thing in this era of flimsy plastic gizmos. My Cingular 8125 PC phone connects to it every time, the feel and spacing of the keys is excellent, it doesn't bend in the middle when I'm tapping away on my lap, it doesn't slide around on a flat surface and it securely holds my PPC phone in either portrait or landscape position. The PPC holder even detaches so you can set the unit somewhere else when it's convenient.
I'm writing a couple of novels and now do all my work on the 8125 since the Stowaway lets me work practically anywhere, using a comfortable keyboard that's at least the equal of the one on my Toshiba laptop.
It's simply one of the best-built pieces of engineering I've ever had the good fortune to use.
Highly recommended.
Customer Review: Great for iPad, not for Mac though Summary: 5 Stars
Works great with iPad or iPhone. There are no drivers, so the special functions do not work, i.e. there is exactly the same functionality as with any other keyboard (cmd-C, cmd-V etc. do work, forward delete works as backspace), Fn works OK, the only minor problem is that shift-up-arrow maps to a question mark (to save space in the layout), so you can't select lines using this shortcut. The detachable(!) stand is meant for phones/PDAs, it is not big and sturdy enough for an iPad, but I wouldn't use it anyway.
When paired with a Mac, pressing the Fn keys first result in the character "a", which makes them unusable even though the modifier functionality still works.
In case you get the iGo Stowaway keyboard without a case, get Caselogic LHDC-1 (available in other colors too). It's a neoprene pouch (marketed as a "Neoprene Portable Hard Drive Case") and fits perfectly. It has two separated compartments, so you can use it for a sync cable, headphones, or other small accessories too. Other loose enough 2.5" hard drive pouches might fit too, but most are too small.
Customer Review: PS3 KEYBOARD Summary: 5 Stars
This keyboard is great. It is very small, rugged and very responsive. To get an idea of the size it is the exact size as your standard Notebook keyboard without the number key row (to use numbers you must press a function key). I think the original purpose of this keyboard is pretty much the way of the dinosaur. I was looking for a very small bluetooth keyboard for my PS3 that would also be rugged enough that it would not break the living room environment. When I saw this keyboard I new it was exactly what I was looking for. It was small, it folded away to protect the keys, and it was bluetooh. I wasn't sure if it would connect to my PS3 but when it got here I had no problems what so ever. You just have to press CTRL + FN(BLUE)+FN(GREEN) to put the keyboard in connect mode and you are good to go. Since I used mine for the PS3 I took off the PDA cradle that folds out when you open the keyboard. It comes of very easily, no tools necessary. Although I did not purchase this item for its original intentions this keyboard is prefect for anyone out there that wants a cheap bluetooth keyboard for their PS3. OH, and by the way, this keyboard sells for atleast 3x's this amount anywhere(don't believe me check google shopping). Even though it is cheap here it is made of very high quality. I have no idea why this item is so cheap on ebay, lucky me I guess.
Customer Review: Remarkable Little Wonder! Summary: 5 Stars
I was cautious to buy this keyboard at first, expecting a cheap little plastic gadget. Setup for my device was not very simple: The provided software failed to work with my device (ATT Tilt). Not wanting to be out this amount of money, I checked out the company's Web site for updated drivers. Although the Web site did not list compatibility for the ATT Tilt (or the HTC model equivalent), I downloaded another driver for an HTC model, and it worked flawlessly. Setup time was about 20 minutes in total, in terms of failure, tracking down the right driver, and going from there.
Once connected, this thing is amazing! It is so intuitive! As a computer-programmer myself, I like how the software is "smart." It just works...well. The function keys are a neat plus. (FN+Word) to open up Microsoft word...Cool! The folding mechanism seems a little fragile, but for a device of this size, that is excusable. I hope (and think) it will stand up well. When collapsed, it is pretty small too. Imagine 3 US passports stacked on top of each other. Open it up, though, and it has most of the functionality of a real keyboard!
I highly recommend this keyboard to anyone whose phone is compatible or who has some computer skills to get it to work if not listed as compatible.
