Digital Cameras Photo Reviews of Thermaltake W0070RUC TR2 Series 430W Power Supply with 2 FansCustomer Review: Easy install on older Dell Dimension 4600 2.8 ghz win xp from 2004 Summary: 5 Stars
Bought this last weekend, it arrived rather quickly, to replace the Dell 250w power unit that sometimes didn't want to come on when the power button up front was pushed, especially if the computer was stone cold due to the colder weather coming on, so I figured my power supply was getting old even though I usually turn the power off when in between uses.
Computer in question is my 2004 Dell Dimension 4600 2.8 ghz running windows xp with 1 gig of ram installed and no added on extra video card, but yes on a sound card, modem, a dvd burner, a cd burner and the 40 gig hard drive. Install of the new power unit went in without any problems other than I couldn't find some spare tie straps to tidy up the interior of the case to perfection, and the fact I don't do much of my own computer repairs/upgrades like I did when computers were easier to work on, ha, like back in the 80's and early 90's with MSDOS and when I would have to install my own hard drives, and ya know, back then I had to replace a fan in a power suplly for an old commodore colt 8088 system, wow have times changed, this is the first time since the 80's that I needed to repair/replace a power supply. I did NOT need to use any sheet metal snips on the back of the case, since its a mid tower case. All the connections for older drives were very plenty for what I needed, and I don't have anything yet with a SATA connector, which would be a newer hard drive.
So, really, all I need to do is figure out how to apply for my $10 rebate I am eligible for, and figure out how to install a bigger hard drive before this old drive starts to get cranky like the original power supply did, and thus of course copy all my files to a new hard drive, to give me some more years use of this computer, real important considering I am using my old parallel port laser printer(HP LaserJet 6mp), newer computers of course no longer use parallel ports, though I still have an all in one dell printer that never could get decent refilled cartridge tanks, nor decently priced originals, or get those items locally.
So there you have it, I am currently computer ignorant but I was able to do my own power supply and you can too.
