Digital Cameras Photo Reviews of Thermaltake Mobile Fan II External USB Cooling Fan - UsCustomer Review: Perfect for my computer setup!!! (tower in enclosed desk) Summary: 5 Stars
First, I have a Dell Dimension 4500 (tower). We just purchased a new desk with an enclosed area for the power strip and tower. I didn't know how the tower would handle the enclosed area and the heat. The desk had two 3" holes in the back for wires. I was able to use the lower one for wires, the upper for the fan. I had to change the direction of the screws (and knob) in each corner so the fan could sit flush against the back (blowing out). Easy to do. Then, with a couple velcro pads (small holes punched through the ones on the fan, and screws inserted through so they were very secure) I attached the fan to the back of the desk on the inside, blowing the hot air out. Plugged right into the back of my computer and powers on and off with the computer itself. Just set the speed and forget it. No overheating problems at all. Moves quite a bit of air too, though a little noisy against the wood desk backing at higher speeds (about mid way works fine, and not very noticeable). Perfect for what I needed!
Customer Review: Excellent Fan! Cooler PS3! Summary: 5 Stars
I purchased this fan for the sole purpose of cooling my PS3, and it does an amazing job!
My PS3 is a CECHE01 80GB Fat model manufactured in early 2007. It gets VERY hot and acts as a space heater for my bedroom when it's on. I seriously have to open the window in the winter just to cool the room down from all the hot air it puts out. After taking apart the PS3, changing the fan inside it, and switching the thermal paste it still ran extremely hot.
Enter the Thermaltake Mobile Fan II. This fan drastically changed the temperature coming out of my PS3. It consistantly ran cooler and the fan puts out a large amount of air! I purchased two of these. One of them pushes cool air into the system and the other is positioned backwards on the back vent to pull hot air out of it. The fan in my PS3 doesn't even kick on now because the two Thermaltake fans work that well.
Truly an amazing product!
Customer Review: Easily cooled my computer 10 degrees Summary: 5 Stars
After reading skibot's review, I decided to get this fan. I also have my desktop tower located in the cabinet shelf of my desk. Now, this desk I got recently and didn't think how much hotter my computer would get inside this cabinet. I soon found that my computer would overheat and shut off if I had the cabinet door shut. So, I had to keep the cabinet door open to be able to use the computer, but it was still getting relatively hot, usually about 109F. Now with this tiny, quiet, incredibly inexpensive fan, my computer kept steady at about 99F. I tried then closing the cabinet door, and it seemed to be working, but eventually it did overheat. Still, great little fan! Maybe if I buy another, I'll have enough cooling power to leave the computer in the cabinet.
Note: I am not the best judge of the fan's noise level since my desktop's fans, which I normally keep on high, are much louder.
Customer Review: Great for in-cabinet PC unit cooling. Summary: 5 Stars
I house my PC inside a 15" wide base cabinet below the workspace in my basement-level office. I have to keep the cabinet door closed (locked actually) to keep the children from turning the unit off and on. Unfortunately, the inside of the cabinet gets pretty hot from the PC due to the lack of circulation. I needed an inexpensive, convenient, and safe way to keep the cabinet cool. I purchased the Thermaltake Desktop USB Cooling Fan, cut a 3.5" square opening on the side of the cabinet, and installed the fan facing out of the openning to draw the warm air out. This solution worked perfectly! I can adjust the Thermaltake fan speed up if I'm running CPU intensive applications - like games or watching a DVD - to draw more air. The fan is very quite - unnoticable really, and the fan grill keeps little fingers from touching the fan blade. I would highly recommend this product.
Customer Review: Does exactly what we're asking of it Summary: 5 Stars
We bought this fan because our three shelves are enclosed and with the receiver cranked to almost any volume above a whisper and with the DVR constantly on, it was getting warm in there. Well, the fan's only been on for about 6 hours now and even though we were running both of the above (but not the DVD player), the temps are about 6-7F below what we were getting prior to putting the puppy in. And it isn't even optimally placed, just kind of blowing air at a hole nearby, not one at its level. At about 3/4 or so, it's all but silent behind the glass door. But now we've decided to get a feed as well as an exhaust. And maybe another to move some air from behind our newly acquired microwave/convection oven.
Oh yeah, after seeing a couple of other comments, we're using the USB port on the Scientific Atlanta (Cisco) HD-DVR.
