Digital Cameras Photo Reviews of Texas Instruments TI-89 Advanced Graphing Calculator

Customer Review: All Hail The TI-89
Summary: 5 Stars

This has to be the greatest innovation that TI has ever come up with. They have managed to cram all of the functionality and power of the TI-92 into a package that looks extremely similar to the TI-86. This calculator eliminates the need for students to take calculus (except those planning a career in mathematics). It does all of the symbolic manipulation (trig) it solves differential equations (advanced calculus) and the 3-D graphs give you something to play with. Unfortunately they have been banned for use at my college, CalTech (most likely because of these reasons). But it helped me a lot when I used it in my last semester of high school. So I had to get a TI-86 which seems archaic compared to the 89. Now if I can only figure out how to cram my 89 into the case for the 86 I will be set.

Customer Review: Other calculators beware
Summary: 5 Stars

I'm not a digital enthusiast by any means. However, over the past four years I have used a large variety of graphing calculators including the TI-83, the TI-86, a Casio and a HP model. While the other calculators where very similar to one another, the TI-89 truly stood in a class of its own. The difference between the TI-89 and the TI-83 is totally worth the fifty dollar difference. Infact, I would even buy a TI-89 if I already had bought one of the others. Basically the TI-89 does all the things you always wished your other calculator would do. For instance, the equation solver alone has the potential to get someone half way through high school math. Also, the interface is laid out very nicely. For a math student at any level, this calculator is their ticket to freedom.

Customer Review: This is a Platinum!!!
Summary: 5 Stars

This is a great calculator, especially for anyone taking caluculus courses or anything from there on. This has helped me through highschool all the way to college, great product and very reliable. HOWEVER, beware, this is NOT the regular TI-89, this is the Platinum version. I just ordered it thinking I would get the old version because I like the colors and design better (easier to read buttons), and the titanium version arrived yesterday. I dont think it is fair at all, considering I paid extra to get the old version, and from what I've seen, I threw away money by thinking that the product description was true... You might as well look for the titanium and buy that, save the extra money...FIVE stars for the calculator, ONE star to amazon for generating all this confusion....

Customer Review: Powerful calculator thats easy for TI-82/TI-83 users
Summary: 5 Stars

If you've ever used a TI-82, a TI-83, a TI-86, a TI-92, or a TI-89 :-), you'll be very fermiliar with the TI-89. Most commands are interchangable with the other TI graphing calculators. Since most classes use TI-82s or TI-83s, you can easily adapt the instructions of the teacher for use on the TI-89.

The calculator is actually powered by the same processor as the Macintosh Plus/SE, so it is very fast when graphing, solving equasions, or playing games. The screen is sharp enough to hold several expressions and answers or display a smooth view of a curve.

Functions include the excellent CAS (try "solve(0=1x^2+2x+3,x)"), basic scientific math functions, programs (games), matricies (like a primitive spreadsheet), graphing, statistics, and many other functions.

Customer Review: Wow, this calculator is more or less a computer
Summary: 5 Stars

This calculator has an incredible amount of uses in various math and science work. The many algebraic features (polynomial expansion, factoring, etc.) allow advanced students to save time and allow novice students to check their own work.

The TI-89 also allows students to use several calculus features such as limit analysis, derivatives, and integration just to name a few. Also, the True-Type screen allows the display to be neatly organized without all the clutter and mess of something like a Mathematica readout.

Another nice feature is the plethora of graphing abilities this calculator has. From 2-D, to polar, sequencing, slope fields, and 3-D displays with rotation, the only thing missing from this calculator is a mouse and a printer.
