Customer Review: A Calculus Student Must-have

This Calculator absolutely does it all! It's ability to find derivatives and antiderivatives (which the TI-85 cannot do) as well as many other calculus functions is invaluable. In calculus, I was always far ahead of my class due to this calculator! In statistics, its tables and graphing is extremely easy to use and its statistical summaries are much easier to access and read than those of the 83 or 85. The pretty print feature makes finding mistakes and reading the answers much easier. The graphs (3D) are far superior to that of the TI-83 or 85. I would recommend this calculator over the 92 for high school students due to the fact that the TI-92 (with its QWERTY keyboard) is not allowed on the SAT I or II tests or AP tests. The TI-89 is a great investment for anyone who needs to go beyond the functionalities available in a usual scientific calculator. The calculator is designed to provide advanced functions like equation solving, integration(definite and indefinite), differentiation, factorization of integers and polynomials, 2-d & 3-d graph plotting and so much more. The manual that comes with the TI-89 is well organized into chapters and ends with an alphabetic list of functions available, making it very easy for the user to adapt to a heavy duty calculator like this. This is truly a wonder-gizmo.Just 2 things : (1) I wish there was a chargeable version of this calculator so I could charge it up overnight, like my cellphone ( it needs 4 AA batteries at a time).(2) I also wish the font style and size was bigger and better, because the font available is too tiny.

no LOG button! which means no antilog, which you need in algebra 2 and chemistry! (unless of course im being extremely stupid and dont know how to do antilog). anyway. its annoying to scroll through the catalog or type log each time. also not a good calculator for stats (if you are using the workshop stats book), unless you are lucky enough to find all of the programs you need. i love this calculator. its quite easy to use.. not confusing at all. you just have to get sed to it. the 'window" is great, makes everything a lot simpler. the text display is much better than the ti-83. super! Also, most teachers do not know how to use a Ti-89, so if you have issues with it, its basically your problem and you need to figure it out. Overall, GREAT calculator because its easy to use and has most of the functions i regularly use..Customer Review: Excellence in computing

The TI-89 calculator is the best I've used so far, once you know how to use it, it comes to hand to quickly solve a lot of problems that you would've normally done by pen and paper. It doesn't have the Apps screen as the home screen like it's replacement, the TI-89Titanium, which I like for the fact that I can be anywhere and hit home to bring me to the base screen like the TI-82/83 which I've used before. I won't say to buy one or the other, there is so little difference between the 89 and 89Titanium that it comes down to which one you think looks better, and I personally like the black better then the grey...
I wouldn't recomend this if you're in anything less then Calculus unless due to sale or clearance the price is better, it's much more powerfull then what you need for Algebra, Geomety, or Trig.

the TI-89 can do exactly what u can do on the paper....writing equations in the same format u write in the paper.....but that isnt really the point....althought the TI-89 may let u feel that math is too easy....it really requires u to have a background already...for example...i start using my TI-89 after i have learned integration with all its kinds...(ie from byparts reaching triple integration)....this way i masterd all the TI-89 major functions...i use it in every subject...from thermo dynamics to physics...to material and fields....simply i take it every where with me!!
it is a must have for already masters of subjects....since it only saves time...but masters can do without it....if u are willing to buy it just to help u out and depend on it...i suggest u go back to books.....
