Digital Cameras Photo Reviews of Texas Instruments TI-89 Advanced Graphing CalculatorCustomer Review: It has it all! Summary: 5 Stars
The user-friendly supercalculator!A previous reviewer complained that it was hard to figure out, within a few days I am using it like a long-time user of the best calculator around. With calculus and algebra functions that'll blow you away,a neat program editing system, and all the constants and conversions you can or will ever need this is a true legend in the calculating field. The only tricky function is how to run the programs, but a quick glance at the superb user's manual and your set.And the Pretty Print is great, you can see the way the problem and answer will look on paper. The 3D graphing on it is excellent for seeing surfaces as defined by an equation. The catalog has things that aren't in any of the menus and everything that is.I had a hard time switching from the TI-82 to the TI-86 but the transition was as smooth as they come. With the Flash system I'll never need to buy another calculator, only the 20 dollar Graph Link. The processor is great(I think it's a Motorola 68000,I could be wrong).Forget this review-get this calculator.you won't be sorry!
Customer Review: An asset even after college. Summary: 5 Stars
I purchased my TI-89 two years ago, and the durability, along with upgradability will make me a repeat customer for life! I started almost 10 years ago with the TI-81, which was I believe the first graphing calculator available for regular consumer use. What power in that time! I have dropped my calculator, stepped on it, and no stratches or errors. It truly behaves brand new. Not to mention the ability to do differential equations, slope fields, and download virtually any program you could want. The battle between HPers and TI faithfuls go on, but my loyalty will always be TI. The fact you don't need some module to use programs, the display, and the option that if you truly want an HP interface, [web site] will allow you to download an application for that for free! With the exception of a few programs, that are well worth the cost, you could download any program for free, and expand this already boundryless calculator. Even after college, this calc proves to be useful for engineers that aren't near a computer. I recommend this over HP to anyone!
Customer Review: Do whatever it takes to get one! Summary: 5 Stars
I have a Ti-89 holstered on my pants at this very moment. This caculator has raised my math grade by three letters. Before I had a Ti-89 I used to have to "study" and do "homework". I would still get C's and D's on the tests though. A bet a few of you know what I'm talking about. If you just had the answer you could figure out how to do the problem! With my trusty 89 I simply type in a equation "solve(2x^3+3x^2-x+10=0,x)" and it gives you the answer! (x=-5/2). My Ti-89 gives me an extra 2 hours (at least!) each night because now I don't have to work 20 homework problems. Also when a test rolls around you will score the highest and take the least time to turn it in. Even when your not in math or science this caculator rules. You can put the most awesome games onto the 89. Ever see "Pong" for the Ti-83? The Ti-89 has "Super Mario World". Just make sure you don't tell your teacher its a Ti-89 (Trust me :) or brag to your friends (much). This caculator is the Excalibur of Math and concealed gaming.
Customer Review: THE WAY TO ACE ALGEBRA Summary: 5 Stars
I CAN NOT BOAST ENOUGH ABOUT THIS CALCULATOR!!!! If you want to get an A in algebra buy this calculator. Do not buy the ti-83 or ti-86. Why? Because for chump change (an extra $40 at the most) you have a calculator that can do almost every algebra problem possible. If you are in college your professor will allow you to use this calculator duing tests and you will get an A on every test. I try to do every problem myself and then I check. If I don't know how to do a problem it feels like cheating, because just punch it into your calculator and you'll get the right answer. The only downside to this calculator is you have to figure out how to use it. The manual that TI provides is written in English, but it might as well be written in a foreign language. Unless your a genius,it will be of no assistance in helping you to use the calculator. You can buy and study books that you can find on Amazon-Step by step tutorials. It takes time to learn to use it but it is worth every minute you invest!
Customer Review: if God had a calculator... Summary: 5 Stars
This is easilly the most amazing peice of electronics i've ever owned. If you're proficient with most electronics, it's an easy to learn interface, and the list of its functions just goes on and on and on. it can solve the most annoying, long, pain-in-the-butt eqautions and give you a final answer in seconds. Also a must-have for anyone taking the SAT's. However, if you're one of those people who has trouble figuring out the microwave, this calculator is NOT for you. The only misgiving I have about it is that sometimes really simple things are hard to do without thumbing through the manual for 10 minutes (I couldn't figure out how to plot points on a graph, for example). This calculator has been the only reason I ace every single math quiz and test i've had this year! You might have to watch out if you're in high school and your teacher checks your work though, because my teacher was less than pleased when she found out that I was using such an advanced tool.
