I am 13 years old and already have the TI 84 silver Edition Graphing Calculator because I am in accelerated math. It is a great calculator and is very user friendly even to a 13 year old. There are so many applications on this calculator besides a ton a math things including a couple fun games, a periodic table good for advanced sciences, you can make study cards, type access the calculator with your computer, download games and little pictures for your start up screen, have a daily calender, organizer and know the date and time, you can do a plethora of things of on this fantastic piece of machinery. When you first get this calculator before using it I recommend you skim through the owners manual which is extremly helpful. Some things are a bit complicated but ones you get it everything is reliable and not prone to goofing up. The batteries last a long time too. I have had it and used it almost everyday in math class since the beginning of school. This calculator is so cool, and works well plus if you don't like the the cream or grey color you can get snap plates and stickers to cover it made specially by Texas Insturments. Mine came in pink, I know someone with blue and orange and blue and green snaplates,it is so snazzy and can be a fun fashion statement too. Many teachers recommend this calculator more then others because of the memory, the easy access, and the good applications and graphing for many classes, not just math. The ergonomics a great to, it doesn't just look like box and is not two heavy and has an impact resistent case so if you drop it just relax! I highly recommend this tool, it works and functions well, and I am only 13!Customer Review: Just what I needed for work use...

I ordered this TI-84 Plus Silver Edition for work use and after using a cheap little single line Sharp EL-506W Calculator, this TI-84 Plus SE is so much easier to use and read the display. I have not had a lot of experience with these TI calculators and still need to learn everything that this will do, however it has served my needs with performing calculations for bidding and some short engineering calculations that my job requires. I was kind of split between the HP-50G and this TI-84 Plus SE and I would say that for the money, this unit is the better of the two, unless you were performing engineering calculations that were very detailed. I also can't say that this won't do those calculations, but the display is not setup like the HP calculators and it may be a little akward to read some of the calculations on this display compared to the way an HP displays and allows user input. I would suggest this calculator to anyone that was looking for an upgrade to a more remedial computation machine...
I also must mention that shipping was extremely fast from the vendor that I bought this from on Amazon.com and I would suggest ordering from this seller any time. I actually will order from them again next time we need to replace or upgrade any calcualtors in the office.

I bought this calculator for my daughter who is a freshman in high school enrolled in Algebra-II and accelerated science courses. The TI-84, along with the TI-83 and some others, are authorized for standardized exam use. We had no choice but to buy it or an equivalent. It's a calculator with limited capability, so that it can't be programmed too much like a computer where it would solve equations for you. In that sense it is technologically limited. If you had iPod or hand held computer using the Wolfram application, you could have it do factoring, integration and some series analysis on the fly, but with the TI-84 you can't do this; however, you can graph polynomials and get some idea of their use. Prior to any standardized testing, such as an AP test or a final exam, teachers or exam proctors will clear the programming on these calculators.
The difference between this TI-84 Plus Silver Edition and standard edition is the ROM/RAM: 1.5MB/24K and 480K/24K, respectively. See TI's web site:

Also, because of the case coloring, the contrast is better to read the keys - at least to someone in their mid to late 40s.

I bought this to replace my aging 83 plus and it's just what I expected. It's faster, has more memory, and has a little more graphing functionality. I needed all 3 pretty badly. Most of the apps that come with it had to come off though...just useless stuff (to me) that took up lots of memory and slowed the processing (memory near full = a slow calculator).
If you're buying this for the programs - you can get them for free from TI...there's plenty of other free stuff out there too. If you want a superior option to the 83, this fits the bill. And now I have a backup!
Do beware of the bundled TI software though. Just as I had my calculator set up like I need it (after many hours of programming) I hit the device info button in the PC interface to check my memory and BAM - all my programs were gone! I'm gonna start looking for a better interface...that incident cost me dearly.

The TI84 is a calculator that has a lot of functions. Not only this, but like other graphing calculators you can program different programs into it. It is easy to use and the graphs that you can see are great. I don't know if this comes with the program update that was released not long ago, but it doesn't cost a penny if you update. You just have to plug it into the computer and install the TI connect program and from there you can update. It is really easy and you can also configure all your files on TI connect. Some of the new functions of the update is that you can actually do log base and you can also actually see mixed fractions. These are great additions to the calculator and will make your math life much easier! If you have the money, buy this one calculator, it is built well and has great functions!
