I had hoped that this would allow me to put all kinds of programs on my ti-83 but I was actually fairly limited(from what I could find) and this cable was made in the 90s so the software that comes with it has to be updated from the website before you can do pretty much anything. It was nice to be able to update the os on the calculator though and that wasn't one of the things mentioned in the description so just an added bonus I guess.Customer Review: Works great, very fast. Highly recommended!

The USB link is easy to use, and is the link to buy if you've got USB ports. While you can't transfer files using TI-GRAPH LINK software and a USB link, you can still use TI-GRAPH LINK for ungrouping calculator data files and viewing or editing BASIC programs on your computer. Had purchased a TI-84 Plus graphic calculator for my grand daughter when she started college, unaware that not everything was in the package. I bought this for my TI-83 Silver Edition and it works flawlessly. As an added bonus, it works perfectly with my TI-86 on Windows XP, even though it says on the package that it won't (package says this cable only supports the TI-86 on a Mac).
