Digital Cameras Photo Reviews of Terk Leapfrog Remote Control Extender Kit LFIRXCustomer Review: Great Solution to hide the big ugly Motorola Cable Box Summary: 5 Stars
I purchase this hoping to solve the problem of "where to put a large Motorola HD cable box" for in my bedroom. I upgraded to a large (40") HD screen in my bedroom and placed it on my dresser. I now needed a large style cable box to support the HD channels. Comcast, my cable provider, does not have a solution to provide a small box for HD. I had to use the large HD box, but didn't want the big ugly box on my dresser.
So...What I did was put the large HD box around the corner in a sitting room, and ran the HDMI cable (15' MediaBridge)to the TV. Then I put the Terk remote extender on the dresser, just behind the TV (it was only partially visible below the TV but the IR signal worked perfectly). I then had to place the Remote Extender receiver so that it would have line of sight IR to the Comcast box. This was another dilema. I didn't have a good location in the sitting room with line of sight to the cable box where I could place the receiver. So...What I did was to try placing the Terk Receiver next to the Comcast box on a 90 degree angle. I wasn't sure if this would work, but ...it works fine. The IR signal is strong enough that it can operate the Comcast box even at 90 degree angle (of course it is right next to the box).
BTW...there is no programming or set up. Just plug it in and place it where you need it. You know "even a cave man could do it"
Bottom Line: this is a great solution that I have already recommended to my friends. One of those solutions that just hits the spot perfectly! As more and more of us put large cable boxes or satelite receivers in their bedroom, a solution like this is crucial. This will also help anyone with wall mounted TVs that doesn't have a close place to locate their cable or satellite box. A key component to this solution was also the Media Bridge 15 foot HDMI cable. I initially purchased a 10', but found that I really needed a 15' to run the cable cleanly.
I hope this review helps!
