Customer Review: Terk HDTVa Indoor Antenna
Summary: 5 Stars

Once you decide which way you want to route antenna cable, it is important to use some strong tape (i.e. shipping tape) on the bottom of antenna to hold antenna cable in place and provide more stability to antenna base. Determine the location of the local TV Transmission Towers (by going to [...] web site and entering your home address), then using a compass, set up your Terk Antenna - - in my case I found that I got the best reception 90 degrees to where the TV Transmission Tower was located. I also found that the reception was improved with the Terk Antenna Amplified Switch in the on position. I found that with a Digital Converter TV Box and a TerK HDTVa antenna, I get crystall clear TV on all of the channels that I was previously able to get with analog, plus additional sub-channels. It takes care (and some time) to set up the DTV Converter Box and the Terk HDTVa antenna to get optimum reception. Follow the DTV Convertor Box set-up instructions as well as the Terk Antenna instructions to be successful. I am able to pick up stations that are 50 miles away without loss of signal problems, even though the Terk HDTVa is rated for 40 miles. One caution, some channel reception (loss of signal) can be impacted by weather (high winds) or by low flying planes. I have set up four (4) TV's with DTV Converter Boxes / Terk HDTVa Indoor antenna's with excellent results. December 2008.

Customer Review: Excellent Antenna.

This review applies to Queens, New York, NY using Digital Converter Box. When I connected this box to my TV, which is using Digital Converter Box (Digital Stream DTX9950), I was shocked that the picture quality had become so much poorer than my $10 regular analog antenna, but, then I did discover my fault, I hadn't plugged in the AC-Adapter of antenna (Included). I then ran a channel scan using the DTV Converter Box, and it did not pick up any new stations at the time, but, when I was done watching regular tv, I turned TV off. After about 3 hours, when I turned the TV on, I had gained over 10 digital stations from as far away as southern New Jersey. I live in the heart of Queens, NY. Overall, I am impressed by the quality of the product. Picture, backed by digital signal, is crystal clear. Sound quality is enhanced by my digital-to-analog converter box, but, it's this antenna that's responsible for giving me so many tv stations to watch.

Feel free to buy this product, and you won't regret your purchase. Terk HDTVa is a good antenna. Remember: Antennas need some time before they can lock into frequencies, so, changes may not be immediate... you just have to let the antenna settle down and run few channel scans on DTV Box or TV to make sure your antenna locks into stations as they become available.

Customer Review: Awesome, Easy-to-Use Antenna
Summary: 5 Stars

I currently have DirecTV with a non-HD receiver. A few months after I signed on with DirecTV, I bought an HD TV and called them up to see about getting an HD signal. They said I would have to buy a $200 HD-receiver, plus the $10 extra per month to receive HD channels. Instead of spending that much money, I thought I'd first try an indoor antenna. I did some research and found this was a highly rated antenna. I checked at a major electronics store and they wanted over $70 for this same model, which I found and bought on Amazon for about half that much.

Fifteen minutes after I unpacked it, I was watching all my local channels. I get all the major networks (ABC, CBS, NBC, FOX) plus several other channels. The shows that broadcast in HD look amazing, and even the shows that don't look better with the antenna than they do from DirecTV. I don't know why that is, or if it's just my imagination.

I live about 35 miles from most of the towers, in a subdivision with tall trees and 2 miles from a small, local airport. None of these things seem to affect the signal. I did lose the signal during a storm, but I flipped over to DirecTV and that signal was out also.

The antenna is fairly small, at least before you extend the 'rabbit ears'. I have

Customer Review: Solved the problem
Summary: 5 Stars

I have a relative in a skilled nursing facility. The facility does not have provision for cable or outside antennas in patients' rooms. My relative cannot adjust an indoor antenna so the problem was to receive all the local stations (about 25 miles away) without constant adjustment of the antenna. A Phillips indoor unit worked, but required someone to move the antenna to get all the local stations.

The Terk HDTVa solved the issue! No more adjusting to get all local stations and, subjectively, less break-ups in signal due to outside influences like metal carts in the hall. It was gratifying to be able to help my relative for such a minor expenditure.

I tried the unit in my home (I have a rotating outside antenna for normal viewing) just to be sure I knew how to set it up. It didn't do any "magic" in my signal area--about 50 miles from most of the local stations over hilly terrain. So I would caution that even a good indoor antenna like the Terk can't replace a good outside antenna in fringe and near-fringe areas. The laws of physics still seem to apply.

Fast shipping, nicely packaged. Easy to assemble--be careful to push in the "arm" with a strong force so that it clicks in place. The antenna does receive both UHF and VHF signals.

Customer Review: Terk HDTVa indoor antenna: Great purchase

This is a very good product. It is very easy to assemble and the directions for the set-up are vey clear and concise. I am using it in combination with a Zinwell digital tv converter box and a SONY analog tv which was predesigned for the ongoing digital tv revolution. I live in the high mountains of New Mexico with the nearest transmitter almost 50 miles away (except for one public broadcasting station about 25 miles away). I pick up almost 25 channels and most are very clear with some white noise present. The described current situation is with the antenna located right next to the tv and pointed toward the appropriate direction through a brick wall in a house that not only has metal siding, but also a metal roof as well. There are also several big trees in my yard right along the best line toward which the antenna is pointing to boot! I am very very pleased with this product and hope with a little more nudging to be able to be completely satisfied as small adjustments are made such as raising the antenna higher up or also placing it closer to a nearby window, etc. The only con I can readily determine is that the bottom of the main antenna base should have a plate attached to it to make it more stable on a horizontal surface, but that too is easily rectified (pun intended!).
