I love this backpack. It is big enough to hold my 16" laptop while carrying all my books to college. It seems to be made rather well, no issues after a month of holding 4 courses of books and a notebook/trapper keeper like planner. I have found that it is even waterproof after getting caught in a storm and having to walk across campus to get to my truck. One of the best things about this backpack is that it does not hurt my back to carry it with my stuff in it. Another bag I was using prior to getting the Targus backpack hurt my shoulder and back carring the same load if not even less.
There are a number of compartments on this bag, so many that I have more compartments and no more stuff to put in them. Great just what I need... my backpack is issueing me a challenge. Either empty pockets or a broken back??? lol Seriously this backpack holds a lot and does it well.

I have had this bag for 3 weeks now. I was worried because of other reviews that I read about buckles and zippers breaking, but so far so good. I got it because of the price and it was one of the few bags that fit my HP HDX18 18" laptop. It fits it just fine with plenty of room for all accessories. The front pack that connects at the bottom and snaps in at the top is kind of hokey...to get to something you have to unhook it and I would rather it just not be there, although it does add three more compartments. If anything was going to break it would probably be the two clips on the front pack. With the bag and the large laptop together sometimes I feel like I am going camping because of the weight/size, but that is to be expected with such a large laptop. Overall, I think for the price it is a high quality bag that I would recommend.Customer Review: Excellent backpack for large screen laptops

This Targus XL is a nice, solid bag. An Acer laptop with a 17.5" 16:9 widescreen fits into it very easily. Even though it's advertised as being for a 17" notebook, it could probably handle an 18.5" with no problems. In addition to being able to hold the laptop, it has a very large zippered pocket with kind of a file divider in it that is large enough to handle several text books. Of course, it also has a ton of smaller pockets for all your odds and ends.
I've had mine for only four days. I already managed to spill hot coffee directly onto the zipper for the section that holds my laptop. It protected my laptop very well, and the coffee didn't stain it at all.
If you need to transport and protect a large screen laptop, and you want to be able to carry other gear at the same time, this backpack is perfect.

I am engineering student at Penn State, and with my hp zd8000 laptop, this backpack works great. I looked around before i bought it, but this seemed to be the best value, and most efficient. It can hold all of my huge physics book with room to spare, and the cd holder pocket in the front doubles nice as an extra battery slot. While i will say that the bag does not stand up level on its own (kinda annoying) the bag itself makes up for it with its capacity. It is well padded inside the laptop compartment, so you don't have to worry about damage to the computer, and it stays dry when it rains. Overall, I'd say that this bag is the best thing out there, unless you want to my big $$$ for something a little fancier that does the exact same thing just as well as this. Ideal for any Student with a heavy course load, and a 17" laptop.Customer Review: Great Bag

I bought this bag about 2 months ago. I have to say I'm very impressed. I've had a number of backpacks and this is as nice as any I've owned. It holds my 17" Gateway with no problems at all. I did find some thin high density foam to add to the protection the bag offers. I haven't found a bag yet that has enough protection so this isn't a complaint, just an observation. This bag has just a ton of room to carry everything and anything. Only thing I would change is to add some more pockets. The bag has a few but it's much easier to keep small things organized if the bag has lots of pockets, preferably zippered. This one has a few but not enough in my opinion. This isn't enough to take a star away though so I've rated it a 5 star bag. Time will tell how this holds up in the long run, but for now I'm quite pleased.
