Customer Review: Couldn't ask for a better solution!
Summary: 5 Stars

This backpack is PERFECT! I bought it for my Dell Inspirion 9300 - 17" - laptop, all of my gear, travel clothes, etc. It's even better than I'd hoped!

Yes, the bag is huge, but what do you expect? If you want something for just your laptop, get a sleeve or something...this will be too big for you. This bag holds my laptop, cords, external harddrive, mouse, cell phone, charger, various adapters, digital camera, batteries, MP3 player...and more...plus at least a weekend worth of travel supplies, including extra shoes and toiletries. Just as other reviewers have said, you have to be careful not to overload this bag, but if you don't care about the weight, it'll hold anything you give it.

Another reviewer mentioned using this as carry-on airplane luggage. This will count as your CARRY-ON, not as your "additional piece" of baggage. I've not had trouble getting this under a seat or in the overhead compartment, but I remove the shoes and laptop before I shove it somewhere, and it's just fine. Some of the littler planes, I've had to check it plane-side, but they always give it right back after the flight.

This bag is extremely well-made. The seams are reinforced, the clips are sturdy, the zippers don't catch, and the velcro is hefty. I'm impressed! There are a lot of places to put things, so as long as you're organized you'll be find finding them later! It sits well on my shoulders and has a comfortable waist-strap. I can see how this would be too big for a smaller-framed person, but I'm not, so it's perfect.

I'd recommend this bag to anyone with a large laptop and gear that needs to go with you. I've tried other bags, and they've all failed me...BUT NOT THIS ONE!!

Customer Review: The bag fits everything I need.
Summary: 5 Stars

I am an evening division law student and I work full time during the day, so when I leave the house in the morning, I have to take EVERYTHING with me. Laptop, Schoolbooks, Files for work, a change of clothes, lunch, dinner, etc... And my old laptop/messenger back just wasn't cutting it.

This bag fits it all. The only drawback to a bag that holds that much stuff is the weight. It gets heavy quick. When other people pick it up, I always get that look like "what in the world do you have in here". I'm not a small person, 6'3 260lbs, so the weight isn't that much of an issue for me, plus the straps on this bag are soft/padded and very wide to prevent it from digging in to your shoulders. It also has a waist strap to take some of the weight off your shoulders and back. Even with these additions, the bag, when packed to capacity, might be too heavy for people with smaller frames.

If the weight isn't a problem for you, I can't recommend this bag enough. The materials and zippers are well made and even when carrying a heavy load they seem to be more than up to the challenge. The laptop sleeve isn't the most elaborate, but it is well padded, holds my 15.6" with no problem and would probably hold even a larger 17" easily, and it stays put with the velcro strap. The bag has plenty of individual compartments for pens, phones, an mp3 player pocket with a small gasketed hole for the headphone wire to pass through, and a mesh netting bottle holder on the side that I use constantly.

Overall, great bag, but remember, a bag that holds a lot, has the potential to weigh a lot if you fill it.

Customer Review: Just perfect for me.

When I received my new HP DV7 17.3" laptop my first thought was, "Oh my goodness. This thing is huge and I don't have anything to carry it in!".

I made the rounds of the local stores and found that bags for this size of notebook are not common. The ones I did find were expensive and not well suited to me. Recalling that all my IT buddies used a backpack for those long hikes through large complexes it just made sense to go that route, also. The Targus XL fit perfectly.

But, just like having extra closet space, I found myself adding things to those spacious compartments. Now, along with the computer, I carry an extra monitor, travel desk, document scanner, track ball, mouse, headset, and all the cords and chargers that go with it. (See the photos I posted)

A spare monitor? Yes. I became spoiled as I have dual monitors at home and at work and I don't like altering my work flow. There is just enough room to pack along an extra 19" LCD for photo and video editing or just to watch a video while web surfing. There's also a generous phone (water/cola) pouch on the side.

It has wide and comfortable shoulder straps and even a waist strap. There are a pair of D rings on the top but they are poorly located for use with a normal (1 shoulder) strap. The main top grip is comfortable and sturdy.

I probably should have gotten a smaller computer to begin with but all the new ones seem to be wide screen. To get a good height I had to go big. If you did, too, then I recommend this bag without reservation.

Customer Review: Fits Everything!
Summary: 5 Stars

I bought this backpack to use at college. I've had it for three weeks and I love it. I have 15 in macbook and bought the Brenthaven Edge II Sleeve (Black) for 15.4" MacBook Pro case to protect it. the case has a lot of structural integrity, far more than a sleve and thus adds a lot of bulk, but this backpack fits the laptop in the case in the laptop slot.

With the laptop in there, I can still fit my notebook, calc textbook, history textbook and reader and another 500 page book all in the laptop pocket and the first pocket after that. Then my ac adaptor, calculator and other bulky non book items can fit in the third pocket. And then theres those two mesh pockets and the whole front part for small stuff or anything else.

The only negative thing about this backpack is its not so good for packing clothes for a trip if you want one backpack for absolutely everything. also the zippers don't look so heavy duty, but no problems yet.

While this pack fits a lot of stuff and is very light. when nothings in it collapses real well so I still like it even when I'm just carrying my laptop or a couple books. It also is much more comfortable then my old Jansport backpack. I can fit about twice the weight in this backpack, but I get fewer aches and pains from carrying a full load around then I did with my old backpack.

If your like me and you like to have everything with you, I don't think theres a better backpack out there.

Customer Review: The only 17" Laptop bag to own
Summary: 5 Stars

First, let me say that this is the first Targus bag I have owned. I have over six other laptop backpacks that I have accumulated over the years and my new laptop sticks out of the top. At nearly 10 lbs the laptop is huge so this bag needed to fill some large demands.

This bag has so many features I was amazed when I received it. An external zipped pouch for sunglasses is perfect for my wireless mouse and the USB adapter.

There are pockets for pens, business cards, and MP3 players, which includes the now de facto headphones slot for the plug. The backpack is well balanced and I can sit it down loaded and it stays upright without falling over.

The laptop slot is thickly padded to withstand shock if needed. There are multiple pockets for folder and agenda binders and a handy large pocket to hold my TechNet/MSDN subscription binder easily.

I have also found the bag useful for when I am traveling, even though it is large, its water bottle holder for the long flights and travel make it ideal and the easy access makes it simple to remove the laptop for security checks.

Overall, I recommend the bag over the others I have found at Best Buy or CompUSA, although they sell this bag at $30 higher.

For a constant traveler I would suggest a bag with wheels like the Targus Messenger bag or the Swiss Army roller, but I am not a roller type of person.
