Targus XL Backpack Designed for 17 Inch Notebooks TXL617 (Black with Blue Accents)
The TXL617 Backpack is outstanding in every aspect, but as I have only had It about a week I can't speak to the long term durability.
There are 2 large zippered compartments. The one in back has a lap top sleeve with a "net" pocket on the front of it and additional room for storage which will hold a legal length file or document. My 18.4" screen laptop fits well in the sleeve and the compartment zipper closes around it with out being stretched or stressed. I did note that the sleeve is about 1 inch short in front which is most likely why this is advertised as a 17" pack. However in the back which is where your computer will be most apt to get damaged when you lay the pack down padding goes all the way to the top of the compartment. The second large compartment is the same size allowing room for legal length files and has a hard divider with a 2 inch "floor" or bottom providing excellent support for books and other heavy items, the divider can be pushed up and out of the way if not needed.
There are 2 medium compartments. The first one is about 2 inches shorter, zips closed and has a pocket inside. The second is another 2 inches shorter has a net which is stitched down the middle to create 2 tall pockets. This compartment does NOT have a zipper! Its "flap" is held up with 2 straps and quick release buckles. I can only guess it was done this way for easy access but I would have preferred a zipper as nothing can be secured in this compartment unless stowed in the net pockets. Oh well, a minor detail whose purpose I just haven't figured out yet.
There are 3 small compartments! The first is on the right side for an mp3 player, is zippered, has a opening for head phone cord (excellent designing) and a pocket on the outside. Second is about 8 " wide and 9" tall as seen on the bottom front in the pic. It has an organizer for pens, cards and glasses with yet another net pocket. A zippered pocket on the flap forms the last compartment. And finally on the left is a water bottle pocket with the usual draw string.
The shoulder straps are nearly 3 inches wide, well padded, cross connected on top to form a flap which is padded then stitched to the pack across a 9 inch distance, wow, I did not expect it to be this well built after reading the other reviews. Speaking of reviews, the guy that claimed the shoulder straps wouldn't stay up must have been reviewing the wrong pack. Even a toothpick build should hold these straps (I'm 6' 190 lbs). Also there are 2 rings on each shoulder strap so one could use and old camera strap or something to rig a connection between them if really needed. A waist strap holds the load secure to your back if desired.
So it seems to be good to excellent quality, only 1 design ding (that missing zipper), numerous compartments, pockets and an "office organizer" satisfy my needs. Now if it will last awhile I'll be happy about the $49 spent.
