Digital Cameras Photo Reviews of TRENDnet 300 Mbps Wireless Easy-N-Upgrader (TEW-637AP)

Customer Review: Wonderfull Product! Over 200 yards of range
Summary: 5 Stars

Got this to upgrade my HughesNet Modem. I didn't have a switch so I was afraid when I unpacked the AP that I wouldn't be able to configure it since it only has one Lan-Port which it needs to get an IP-Address.
BUT a standard wireless was turned on by default so I had no problem configuring the TRENDnet AP to work with my HughesNet Hardware.

If anybody is trying to set it up using wireless as well just remember this little hint: On the final step of the wireless-configuration a message will pop-up and tell you that your configuration failed. This is not the case so just ignore this pop-up and reconnect to the new wireless-setup. (The problem here is, that the AP can't reconnect with you since the wireless-configs have changed - but like said before ignore it and just reconnect)

One more thing - this is only an AP (Access-Point) its not meant to have any firewall-abilities so dont't expect any.

- It has all needed encrypting methods from WEP to WPA2
- User friendly interface
- Standard security- and monitoring-features
- Option to choose the wireless mode (B/G/N or a mix of 2 or all 3 modes)
- Under Wireless-N-mode I was able to get the signal even more than 200 YARDS away from the House

So if you are looking for an easy and cheap way to extend your Network with a reliable Wireless - this is a very smart choice

Customer Review: Easiest WAP setup to date
Summary: 5 Stars

Bought this to upgrade a very functional D-Link DWL-2100AP 802.11g access point. The TEW-637AP was cake to set up. Unlike older devices I did not have to put my notebook on a static IP address in range of the WAP just to access setup. The accompanyiong setup CD walked me through about 10 steps that were as easy as could be. It saved the settings in a plain text file. Apparently this can be imported later if things go south to return the WAP to a prior working configuration. The WAP supports either DHCP or static addressing in that it can get an IP address from your DHCP enabled router or you can assign a static IP address. Makes the infrequent trips into the setup very easy. When they are ideally located, WAPs are not always easy to reach. Once setup - it was sitting on my desk connected to the router with a Cat 6 cable - All I had to do to connect to it was left-click on my tray icon (Win 7 Pro x64), Select the SSID for the WAP, enter the password and I was there. Still waiting for a Trend TEW-649 USB WLAN N adapter so speed is't blistering yet. So far - only a few hours - it's rock solid. It's not large, slightly larger than the palm of your hand. I've had very good luck with Trend products. Unquestionably the easiset setup of any devices I own and they've performed well and last well beyond their warranty - unlike the much touted Linksys. For now, would not consider any other brand.

Customer Review: Perfect upgrade for your existing Router
Summary: 5 Stars

I have had a Microsoft Router for about 5 years now and it has been perfect in every regard, but I was really wanting to upgrade it and get the latest speeds....I was torn since my Router is still working great, I hated to mess with something working so good when you read the spotty reviews (some 5 star---some 1 star) for some of the new routers.

So I thought this one would be the perfect choice and after 2 months of ownership I am proud to say that it IS !...I just hooked it into a port on my existing router and now I have the Microsoft Router in B speed and the Trendnet N Speed working right beside each other perfectly...I am very happy with it...It took about 15 minutes to install using the included instructions and their website that is very helpful...I was able to print out the entire manual before I even got the router !

In the couple of months I have had it...Not one dropped signal...haven't had to reboot it...nothing.....It's been flawless from day 1....It works WAY out in my backyard.....and everywhere in my house (1,500 Square feet).....I get 80% signal in the yard and back porch...and 92% to 95% inside the house.

I have used it with a iPod Touch...PS3....and a Wii....and setup was easy with them all....even with the best security settings.

Customer Review: Easily added wireless network to my company
Summary: 5 Stars

In order to add wireless network to a company which I work for, I have used D-Link wireless N router as an access point. But we have suffered that the router denied to assign IP address from our DHCP server. I found that only a few routers have a function to let it use as pure access point.

So, I swapped the D-Link wireless N router with this Easy-N-Upgrader. This product is actually an Access Point. TRENDnet just named it unique. This dedicated access point solved the IP address issue, and it works very good. Although the antenna is not upgradable, the range is on par with typical N wireless devices.

Setup was not as easy for me. It provided a program which finds the device automatically and let you log in, but the manual does not show its factory default IP address. So you must use tha program in the first time to set the device IP address which you like to use. But, the programs works if you are not serious about manual setting.

It does not have holes for screw to mount to wall or ceiling. But thanks to its flat, low bottom, foam double side tape worked in attaching it to our office ceiling.

Customer Review: I'm happy
Summary: 5 Stars

Compared to my linksys router, this thing is terrific.

I am using Trendnet's Wireless N usb module in a computer in a dog house which is about 150 ft from the house. It is going from the doghouse through a couple garage walls to the access point. It works flawlessly.

Not only that but the wireless G part of it also works much better than my Linksys. I have the Linksys closer to my wireless G notebook than the Trendnet AP. The signal strength for the Linsys connection is excellent. The trendnet signal strength is low (keep in mind that it is quite a bit farther away than the linksys), yet the throughput for the trendnet connection is, on average, 3 times higher than the linksys.
