Digital Cameras Photo Reviews of TRENDnet 300 Mbps Wireless Easy-N-Upgrader (TEW-637AP)Customer Review: Wow; this is an incredible piece of technology. Summary: 5 Stars
Having reconfigured my Belkin Wireless G Router and Access Point for the seemingly last time due to dropouts/miscommunication, I began an extensive search into alternatives and/or possible means of upgrading my network.
What readily became apparent, however, is that the Wireless N space is mixed, at best, in terms of a quality control. Nary a router nor access point on Amazon escapes unscathed from user reported firmware bricks, poor customer support, and/or configuration nightmares.
Logically, I wasn't ready to toss working (albeit spotty) equipment in lieu of the same malady, let alone spend $150+ for a new duo (since different products tend not to talk to each other on the same network, period).
At this point discovered the peculiar TEW-637AP, a $60 solution that seemed as plausible as sprinkling fairy dust on my car to fly it over rush hour traffic. I left my faith in the positive sentiments from Amazon reviewers before me, and gave it a whirl.
Wow. The TEW-637AP not only met expectations, but exceeded it. The configuration CD operated seamlessly on a MAC running Parallels Desktop; the device was up and running in 10 minutes flat. Moreover, it piggybacked effortlessly on my temperamental Belkin combo, online in a jiffy with significant speed increases. By 'significant,' I would guesstimate a good 20% increase off the bat.
It was also surprisingly smart enough to daisy chain a signal from it...to the main router...to the Access Point (connected to my printer) to print. I remain floored at the ingenuity of this little bugger.
Simply put, Wireless G users looking to take the N plunge should not pass 'Go!' without exploring the TEW-637AP. This is a steal for the capability it provides.
