Digital Cameras Photo Reviews of TRENDnet 2-Port USB KVM Switch Kit with Audio (Includes 2x KVM Cables) TK-209K (Blue)Customer Review: Simple and perfect Summary: 5 Stars
I was not expecting much out of this unit considering the price was much lower than comparable solutions - but I was wrong. This little unit has worked flawlessly for me for about 4 months. I've used it on Vista, XP, and Win2000. Highly recommended for anyone who has the need for such a device.
My only (minor) complaint is that it is an analog video signal, rather than digital. This is standard for most KVM switches, especially in the lower-end price range. But I noticed on the TRENDnet website they are coming out with one which replaces the VGA with DVI (digital) connection. I'll definitely get one of those when they are released (however, they didn't give a date)!
Customer Review: works good Summary: 5 Stars
It works good. I have a Compaq PC with Windows XP. The switching takes about 5 seconds. There are 2 connection sounds that you hear from the PC speakers when the switch is done (just normal Windows sounds), so you know when control is passed from one PC to another. I hit the "scroll lock" key twice for my switching. You can also switch by using the 2 buttons on top of the unit (but my unit is on top of my PC, which sits on the floor).
I usually put my main PC to sleep. I used to do hibernate, but that seems to have problems with the KVM (sometimes). So, I use sleep mode instead, and it works great.
I would buy it again, if I needed one.
Customer Review: Quite literally the whole shabang! Summary: 5 Stars
10 minutes start to finish, 5 of which was crawling under the desk and it would have taken less time if I was skinnier and/or younger.
The instructions are 4 little pages long, you could copy them onto an 8.5 X 11 without changing the size, and 6 very simple steps. That's it.
The cost can not be beat, I spent more on the networking book that didn't have a solution to my problem than this puppy. NOTE: If you have a keyboard and mouse that have the older plugs, you'll need to buy the PS/2 converter cable for an extra 10 bucks, which TRENDnet also makes.
Needless to say, I am the happiest customer. This is a great product.
Customer Review: A good space saver Summary: 5 Stars
I have a 2-computer setup on a single work-desk and having 2 keyboards/mouse/monitors is a bit cumbersome. The KVM switch saves plenty of space (and money for the extra hardware you might need to hook up 2 machines together).
I did buy the one with audio ports but it is more of a hassle if you're playing music on one computer and working with the other. The audio cuts off (switches to the active computer) when you switch between the machines. This is an intended feature so no complaints; I have my audio permanently hooked up to one and that takes care of my needs.
To sum it up - a great device that saves you space and money.
Customer Review: Works perfectly Summary: 5 Stars
I am using this kvm switch on a Power Mac and an HP box running Linux, and it does its job well. All the cables needed are included, and it is easy to hook up.
Even the audio sounds good, unlike a different brand that my son bought, and he gave up on the audio switching because of the poor sound quality. I am running mine through a 100 watt stereo receiver and Boston Acoustic speakers, and there is no sound degradation.
I didn't install any software, so I'm using the buttons on the switch itself, and switching takes about one second to complete. I have had no problems and am very happy with this purchase.
