Digital Cameras Photo Reviews of TRENDnet 2-Port USB KVM Switch Kit with Audio (Includes 2x KVM Cables) TK-209K (Blue)Customer Review: Excellent! Easy to use! Summary: 5 Stars
I ordered this because we just moved from a 3 bedroom (where I had my own office with two desks) to a 2 bedroom (without my own office and just one desk). I work from home and I'm a student, so I have my work laptop and monitor and my school laptop and monitor. Before I was able to spread out and have two desks. Now my husband and I are sharing an office and we're both only allowed one desk because of space. I LOVE the setup this KVM switch allows me to have. It was SOOOOO simple to set up (which is good for someone like me who thinks some technologies are scary) and VERY easy to use.
I do not like that the cords are all over and coming out every which way, but it still is quite functional and a great way to have everything I want. I would HIGHLY recommend this to someone who is looking to save space. I was worried about it working with two laptops instead of two desktops but it works beautifully.
Customer Review: Works Like A Charm Summary: 5 Stars
I'll admit. I was a little hesitant at first and here's why. I have a 22" monitor that I would like to share with my home desktop and my work laptop. The reason I was hesitant is because my work laptop uses Windows XP and my company is pretty strict in regards to what programs you can install on the laptop. I was also hesitant as I didn't know how the quality of the image would be on a 22" monitor. I am please to announce that this product just works!! The image on the 22" is pretty good. A lot better than I expected. Set up was a breeze. Just make sure that you follow the simple instructions.
P.S. I am also using a docking station with my laptop and it works. The audio portion works too!
P.P.S. For people using laptops, you may have to force the laptop to output the image to the external monitor. It's usually a FN + F7 or FN + F8.
Try it -- you'll LOVE it!
Customer Review: Useful product that does what it claims at a decent price Summary: 5 Stars
This is not a review of the video capabilities of this KVM switch. Since my monitor supports dual inputs I did not use the video capabilities.
However, the TRENDnet KVM switch does what it claims, switch my keyboard and mouse between two computers. This is the first KVM switch I've ever owned so I can't compare it to another. It just works. There is software to install and without it the switch did not get recognized immediately. I'm using this between a Windows XP and a Windows Vista computer and it works for both. It actually works better in Vista were the keyboard and mouse are picked up nearly instantly when I hit the button. On an older, slower machine there is a bit of lag time, maybe 15 seconds until the keyboard and mouse are recognized.
Be careful this product only accepts USB keyboards and mice. I also haven't used the audio cabilities, so I can't review.
Customer Review: Color Me Impressed Summary: 5 Stars
I was extremely cautious about this device when I bought it. I really just needed something to switch audio and video between my XBox and my PC. That worked flawlessly as expected. What I didn't expect is that when I swapped out the XBox cables for my work laptop - that worked just as well!
Furthermore, the #1 gripe I have read about all of these KVM devices is that they don't work with wireless keyboards and mice. I have an older Logitech kb/mouse combo and mine works perfectly switching from my work laptop to my home PC. I just plugged the USB's from the provided cables into the computer and laptop and then plugged my wireless kb/mouse into the mouse port of the KVM switch and both PC and laptop picked it up automatically.
I consider myself lucky after all the bad reviews I've read but I can't help but be impressed by how fast and easy this thing worked.
Customer Review: Great, dead simple KVM Switch Summary: 5 Stars
Got my wife a laptop to replace her desktop but I use the desktop to record TV for my travels so I wanted both to exist in the same spot with only one monitor, keyboard and mouse. This worked perfectly. Setup was confusing but actually simple once I realized what went where. What confused me is you only need to connect a VGA cable and one USB to each computer. Previous KVMs I had needed 4 connections with sound. This handles sound, mouse, and keyboard with one USB. No time delay that I notice. . Takes up almost no space and the best part is it can be hidden. I don't need to push the button to switch between computers because it creates a hot key (hit scroll lock twice) to toggle between PCs. Works great. Uses a USB keyboard and mouse and VGA monitor.
PROS: Price, ease of setup and use, hotkey,
Cons: NONE
