Customer Review: Works with Mac Mini and PC, few minutes to setup

This switch simply works. No complicated setup, no software to install. Just turn off both computers. Plug the shared keyboard, monitor, mouse, speakers and microphone into the switch, connect the included cables into the switch and the two computers. Then turn on the first computer, the one you want to designate as #1. After the first computer boots up and everything is okay, then push the #2 button and boot the second computer. That's it. From then on, you just push the button #1 or #2 to make the switch. It switches instantly, if both computers are not asleep. If one is asleep, it gives the signal, and then the PC takes only a few seconds to wake up.
I read a lot of reviews and I'm glad I did. Other switches seem to need software to work well, and rely on keystrokes to change. Because this switch has a button, it just truly switches over without any need to install software, making it the most generic. For PCs, you can use the scroll-lock+scroll-lock key combination to elicit the switchover. But it's simpler just to teach my kids to select button 1 or button 2.

I read several reviews of similar products and decided on the Trendnet unit. Installation was literally just connecting the cables and pressing the button and starting the computer for that button. Works like a gem with zero problems or complaints. As others have stated, longer cables would have been better but I was able to work it out with what was supplied..Placing both computers side by side under the desk and placing the Trendnet on top of one of them, or on the desk right above them if that space is available would probably be the easiest way to go. After getting hit by a really nasty virus I decided to set up an old computer only for surfing the internet and nothing else and with the TRENDNET IT'S EASY AND PAINLESS.
If that computer takes a hit nothing of importance [all in the other computer] is at risk and I just swap in a cloned hard drive [from when it was clean] and I'm back where I was in 10 minutes or so with no headache and no virus! Many other uses of course, but that's how I'm using it. I absolutely recommend this probuct!

I have it connected to a Mac Mini (used it with both Tiger and Leopard) and a Home built PC (running Vista Home Premium). I am using an HP w2207 for display (resolution set to 1680x1050) and Logitech S510 wireless keyboard/mouse combo. Without installing any software on either computer the KVM works flawlessly. Sound from both computers is good. No image quality issues even at the high resolution I use and switching is very fast. Left both PC's running for several days and did not have any problems.
I decided to add the included windows switching software on the PC and the KVM started having issues on the PC side. Removed the software and all was well again. It was the latest version of the switching software from the EOM web site. I chock it up to another problem with Vista. There is no real value added by having the software installed when the KVM only supports 2 PC's. If you purchased the 4 port version the software might be worth having.

Due to a leg injury I had to move my work laptop and gaming PC to the same workspace. With limited space, I needed a good, low-cost KVM. I decided to take a chance on this model and I'm glad I did.
I have a monitor with one DVI input and one VGA input so I had no use for the "V" part of this KVM. I was surprised how small this unit is. It's barely bigger than a pack of cards! No waste of desk space. It supports a key sequence for switching (scroll lock x2). Sure there's a very minor delay when switching between computers. Boo hoo. The fact that it has all the cables you need is even better. For just under $25 this really hits the spot. This is the 2nd TrendNET device I've bought in under a week (the other was a $20 PCI 80211.n card for the gaming PC) and I'd never heard of them before last week. All I need are some zip-ties for cable management and I'm set. I can't speak for anyone else but this met my needs, is unobtrusive, and low cost.

If you live, work or know someone who lives in a New York City apartment, you'll know what I mean when you have to pack alot in a little space. I needed to make 2 computers work with 1 monitor (for the sake of finance and space). I went to a major retail store and spent almost $60 on a device that claimed to do everything this gadget says it does. It didn't work! When I investigated a little more, I found this sweet little thing for less than half the price and free "next day" shipping, I nearly wet my pants!!! I recieved this in less than 24 hours from ordering it and it worked right out the box. I've read the reviews and with something like this you should definantly just do exactly what the installation instructions say to do. Don't worry, its really easy to follow. It switches from computer to computer so easy it is amazing! So any Manhattanites who are looking to save space and money (helps with your electric bill too!) this is just the thing.
