Customer Review: Buy It - You'll Like It
Summary: 5 Stars

I purchased this unit based solely on the reviews I read on this site. I couldn't be happier. Within 15 minutes of delivery, I had my KVM hooked up and running like a top. Some of the reviews here confused me because some said this KVM was not compatible with a wireless keyboard and a wireless mouse, yet other reviewers said it WAS compatible. Since the directions do not specifically address this, I simply took the USB wired receiver/transmitter that communicates with my wireless pieces, and attached it to the KVM where the keyboard is supposed to be hooked in. For those of you who have not seen this unit, that may sound confusing. But the confusion will disappear once you begin to hook your unit up. After starting my first computer as instructed, I had to wait about 15 seconds for the wireless keyboard and mouse to start working. As other reviewers have mentioned, there are no software or drivers required. The KVM draws its power form a USB connection made to each computer with the wires provided by the TRENDnet. I do not consider myself a "computer person", and yet the hook-up of this unit was very quick and simple. I highly reccomend.

Customer Review: Press NUM LOCK twice quickly to switch without software. Works with Linux too!

I was looking for something to allow me to use my netbook and my desktop with my keyboard and mouse. My desktop has two monitors and I use a third for the netbook. (I could use one of the two monitors as this device switches video too, but the desktop uses DVI instead of VGA.)
This device works perfectly. The device is easy to setup and use, even without the use of the KVM software included. Push the buttons to switch, use the included KVM software, or... press the NUM LOCK key twice quickly. I found this out by accident. Doing this switches the device without need for pushing buttons or installing the software. This method works in Linux too!!! The software is Windows only, so rapidly pressing the NUM LOCK twice is a perfect solution to switching between computers easily.
I hide the device behind the monitors since I can easily switch this way. The design is nice, but wish the cables did not use all four sides. That is okay though since this works well anyway. It does take a second or two for the mouse and keyboard to activate when switching. Not a big deal, though.
Great value and well worth the money.

My computer monitor it's my TV and I needed one more VGA port to plug my Dreamcast videogame. For my dreamcast I was using the regular AV conector on my TV, but this is an old system, the image quality on HDTV isn't good as 480i tvs, so I decided to buy the VGA adapter for my dreamcast which output the best picture quality out of it, although I was using the TV's VGA port for my computer, so I tried this TRENDnet device and works beautifully. The only problem that I had was that this device has no power adapter, the power needed to work come from the USB connected on your computer, but the dreamcast doesn't have any USB port. In order to play my dreamcast using this device, I had also to power the computer to give power to the device. Now I can play my dreamcast without powering my PC, what I did was simple, I have two MP3 player, both of them have a power plug with a USB port on it, since both MP3 players works with either power plug, I took one of those power plugs to power the other USB end(of my dreamcast). Although, now the TRENDnet stays on all the time and not only when my PC is powered, but for me that's good enough.

I have desktop PCs located both at home and at work. I bought this unit because I wanted to share my 15" MacBook Pro with the same monitors both when I am at home or at work. The KVM switch works as described: easy to set up, easy to switch between my Dell desktops and my MacBook. The entire set-up took no more than 5 min. I also plugged in a wireless mouse/keyboard that shared a single transmitter from Logitech, and the KVM switch just took care of it.

When I get to work, it took me 20 seconds to plug my MacBook to the KVM switch (with no rebooting). I can easily toggle between PC and Mac by pressing button 1 or button 2. When I go home, I repeat the same process for the KVM switch in my study.

The picture also is a bit misleading - in a good way. I was expecting something bigger, the actual KVM switch is only 3.5" in length.

If your PC uses a DVI output to hook up to your monitor, you will need a DVI to VGA converter. Specifically, DVI Male to VGA Female Adapter.

Simply put - this KVM thing simply works. I wish more products can be like this. No hassle whatsoever.

I'm a telecommuter. My employer forced me to get a company-owned laptop and stop using my home PC to connect to work. I have very limited desk space. I researched and then ordered a Trendnet TK207K 2-Port USB KVM Switch. It works great. When I first tried it out, I had trouble because of personal denseness, and to save others from a similar fate, I'll describe what I had to do. If you connect your switch to a new machine without first making sure your new machine knows how to work with your other machine's mouse, keyboard, monitor, speakers, and microphone, you're heading for the proverbial brick wall. First connect all these devices directly to your new machine and use the Control Panel (Windows - I don't know the equivalent for Apples) to get them all talking to the new machine. Once they do upon boot up, only then set things up as the switch documentation says and everything will work fine. It works flawlessly then. And I read in one of the reviews below that IBM laptops have a problem. That's what my employer sent me - an IBM ThinkPad - and it works just peachy. I couldn't be happier with this KVM switch.
