Digital Cameras Photo Reviews of TRENDnet 2-Port USB KVM Switch Kit with Audio (Includes 2x KVM Cables) TK-209K (Blue)

Customer Review: Simple, slightly ugly cabling, yet works perfectly
Summary: 5 Stars

I also own an expensive Belkin 4-computer model (USB w/audio), but this one actually works better. The Belkin one breaks my multi-function KB, as well as preventing my monitor from sleeping. The TrendNET one works perfectly on both counts, I can switch from my PC to my Mac using ScrollLock+ScrollLock, and it includes the cables. (The cabling weighs about 10X the actual KVM ;-)

One small warning - a Mac cannot use the ScrollLock+ScrollLock keystroke to switch between inputs, so you have to be able to reach the physical buttons.

My only complaints are minor. One is that the cables come off of all 4 sides (which I knew from the pictures), making it very difficult to look nice. You might need some cable ties.

The other complaint is that all of the cables in included are proprietary on the KVM-side - you cannot replace them with your own cables or longer ones. Even the audio cables use a mini-USB connector instead of miniplugs (why?), and the video AND USB ports come off of the VGA connectors! However, this doesn't prevent it from working, but may be a problem if your computers are very far apart, since you'll need 4 different extension cables.

Overall, I really like the product: it works well, doesn't require additional power, and includes all of the cabling.

Customer Review: Plugged it all in and it's working! Didn't take long!

I was worried that the Adesso PS2 to USB might not work for my older PS2 Keyboard since reading some reviews about adapters. It is working so far!
I haven't tried using three buttons at a time for anything yet. I read a review that said it didn't do so well with using a combination of keys.
It takes sometimes a couple of times of hitting a key or two to function, then again I'm not sure if it is the adapter or the TrendNet KVM switch that it is attached to??? I wonder if the KVM switch is taking awhile to switch over.
The TrendNet wifi USB is working wonderfully and no problems. It gets right online at the full speed of the G router. The usb is the N type and the router is a G type and not of the same brand. I am glad that this Usb wifi is backward compatible and will eventually enjoy an N router when the prices come down a little more!
At first setting up the KVM(Usb type,TK-209), PS2-to-Usb adapter, and usb wifi(TEW-648UB) to two different computers did not start up easily. I pressed buttons and it wouldn't recognize the keyboard on either computer. I tried to use the mouse and it wouldn't recognize it either on either computer. A few minutes later it started to recognize all. Just follow all of the instructions!
I am happy and content with all three of the purchases, Yay!

Customer Review: Works out of the box - no issues
Summary: 5 Stars

I've only had it set up one day. So far, it works great. It only took a few mintues to set up and most of that was cleaning off my desk.

Cons:
Like several others have said, it kinda sucks that cords come out all sides - it looks a bit like a spider. The thing is tinier than the photos make it look. 1 x 2 x 3 inches or so. I would have happily taken one a few inches longer if all the cords went out the back so I could aim them off my desk.

Pros:
-Worked straight out of the box
-Screen resolutions adjusts automatically.
-Cordless mouse works fine (microsoft standard cordless mouse).
-New USB keyboard works fine (logitech) - all the hot keys work.
-Using Keyboard hotkey <Scroll lock><Scroll lock> to switch from my two computers worked instantly - no software installs. (I'm using PC laptop and desktop - both run XP of some sort.)
-It takes about 2-3 seconds to switch over.
-Packaging fairly green - no styrofoam - just cardboard.

FYI - The computer that hasn't been used in awhile will go to sleep if it would ordinarily do that. I was a bit slow to realize that. But, just like if you walked away, wiggle the mouse or whatnot to wake it up.

Customer Review: Serves my purpose

The reason I purchased this is to share my Acer 17" monitor, USB Keyborad and optical mouse (both Logitech) between my DELL 4400 desktop and my office laptop. It started working immediately after I set up the wiring connections. No S/W installation was required. I could switch between the two computers simply by using the hot keys (pressing Num Lock or Scroll Lock twice).
The other thing I like about this switch is that it does not need to be powered seperately.
Cons:
1) There is a lag of 2 secs when I switch between the PCs (though this is not an issue for me).
2) When I start my desktop (which is 8 years old), I always get the message "Keyboard Error" and the KVM switch stops blinking only after the XP loads completely. In other words, I could not switch to my laptop before I get my desktop screen.
3) Could not update BIOS info nor start my desktop in Safe Mode as key strokes aren't recognized during bootup. I need to disconnect the KVM and connect my Keyboard directly to PC to do so.

Have no comments about the Mike/Sound feature as I haven't tried it yet.

I have replaced my desktop with a new HP G62. The KVM switch was recognized and works perfectly with it.

Customer Review: Works exactly as hoped
Summary: 5 Stars

My old KVM was not compatible with Windows 7, and I read the reviews and specs of the available switches before selecting the Trendnet TK-209K. None of the reviews for the TK-209K commented on Windows 7, and the tech specs did not mention it either, so I thought I'd take the chance. It works perfectly with my desktop (Win 7) and my work laptop (XP). The cables from the KVM to the computers are unique, in that there is no separate USB or PS2 cables, but rather the video out cable is siamesed with a single USB cable for both keyboard and mouse, however this works fine. My keyboard is PS2, but it came with a PS2 to USB adapter cable, and it works fine. Set up was pretty straight forward--just followed the set up directions--however, it did take a reboot for my work laptop to recognize the KVM, possibly because of the VPN that runs before Windows boots. I rebooted and skipped the VPN load, and it recognized the KVM no problem. It does take a couple of seconds for the change over to happen, but it is not an excessive delay. The specs do NOT tell you that the TK-209K is USB 1.1 compatible (not 2.0), but that does not seem to have any significance to my using, but I'm not a power gamer.
