Digital Cameras Photo Reviews of TRENDnet 2-Port USB KVM Switch Kit with Audio (Includes 2x KVM Cables) TK-209K (Blue)Customer Review: TRENDnet TK-209K 2-Port USB KVM Switch Kit with Audio - HIGHLY RECOMMENDED Summary: 5 Stars
Right off the bet I want everyone to know that the fact that I took the time to write a review about this switch means a lot because this is the first time I wirte a review on Amazon (shame on me, maybe this is the begining of a change in this respect ) even tough I shop on Amamzon a fair amount. I'm really impressed by this cheap little device.
As an FYI, on a scale from 1 to 10 as being computer literate I would rate myself at about 9 . Also I'm a tech junkie overall so that means I'm a little picky with my tech toys
I just purchased this and it's my first KVM switch but I've done extensive research on KVM switched before settling on this one.
The two things that made me choose this switch were the reviews (very good) and the price . Also very important for me was for it to work with my Logitech wireless mouse since most of the KVM switches out there are not compatible with wireless keyboards and mice.
The set up was a breeze. Hardest part or should I say the most time consuming for me was plugging all the cables in since the space under my desk is so crammed but other than that it was nothing. Like others said you have to plug your computers in and turn them on one at the time having the switch on the right channel (1 or 2) before you do it for each compouter. That's about all the "set up" you have to do. Basic "plug and play". No software (ignore the cd they give you) or tweaking necessary.
Besindes this working with my wireless mouse it also works with my Logitech Pro 9000 WebCam.
What I did is plug in my wired Apple keyboard in one of the usbs on the switch and plug in my webcam in the other. My mouse is plugged into the keyboard (which has 2 usb hubs for peripherals) and everything works flawlessly.
I use the keyboard hotkey to switch between computers. The hotkey on the apple keyboard is the "CLEAR" key (since it does not have a scrolllock key). You have to tap it twice to switch.
For the record the computers and peripherals on my setup are the following:
comp 1: IBM desktop with Win XP Pro service pack3
comp 2: IBM Thinkpad T30 laptop with Win XP Pro service pack3
Apple Keyboard - MB110LL/A
Logitech Wireless Mouse V320
Logitech WebCam - Pro 9000
3 Piece Speaker System (offbrand, compusa I believe- I;m not home right now to check the model number sorry)
Do yourself a favor and get this device if you need a KVM switch . You won't be sorry.
