Digital Cameras Photo Reviews of Transcend 8 GB Class 6 SDHC Flash Memory Card with USB 2.0 Card Reader TS8GSDHC6-S5W

Customer Review: Excellent product for multiple use!
Summary: 5 Stars

I purchased this 8GB SDHC for my ASUS eee 1000HA to backup all my files. 8GB is plenty enough for my use, but others may need larger capacity. Transcend 8GB comes with FREE card reader for USB connection. In sum:

1. For my eee 1000HA, this SDHC card functions as backup drive that remains in the slot. But you could use it for many other multimedia electronics (i.e., digital camera).
2. The card was fast in transferring my files and documents. It is far better and faster than burning in CDs or DVDs.
3. Extra bonus: FREE card reader. The card reader works fabulously. For those machines that do not come with the SD reader built in, this portable reader is essential. BOTH XP and eeebuntu 2.0 (modified Ubuntu 8.10 for eee series netbooks) recognized the reader and I was able to BOTH read and write into the card. The orange led light let you know that the reader is "on" & working.

So if you are looking for a basic, inexpensive but dependable SDHC card, I highly recommend this product, especially it comes with FREE reader.

Customer Review: Great card (and reader) for the price
Summary: 5 Stars

I have purchased multiples of both the 8g and 16g Transcend SDHC cards with the bonus reader. Simply put, they deliver as promised. Fast and reliable. I use them with my Canon Rebel XSI.

One vendor I ordered from sent me a Digitalmatrex USB reader instead of the Transcend USB reader. The Digitalmatrex USB reader was less than half the speed of the Transcend USB reader (with a Transcend 16g card). For example, "Test Card" from Lexar diagnostic tools took over an hour with the Digitalmatrex SDHC 150x Card reader, less than 30 minutes with the Transcend USB reader (same 16g card). Do note, the name is indeed Digitalmatrex, this is not a typo. I recommend the Lexar Image Rescue suite too, but that is another review :-)

To their credit, the vendor refunded me in total (item and shipping) for their incorrect shipping. If you look around a little at Transcend reviews on Amazon you will infer who the vendor is.

The card has a lifetime guarantee, the reader two years. You really can not go wrong with this combo.

Customer Review: Well worth the money
Summary: 5 Stars

I bought this because I thought it was a card reader WITH an 8GB card and imagine my surprise when I opened the box and saw it was an 8GB card WITH a reader. (Just kidding).

But I did buy this for the reader part. My old 12 in 1 reader was no good with the SDHC cards and the replacement I bought for that didn't support SDHC either, so back to the store there.

I've seen some of the tests people made and I can confirm that the sustained write speed is about 10MB/s (for a 3 GB file)

You really cannot complain with this deal. For those with reader issues, (I don't), this reader and card are sealed in the same plastic case. If your items are separate, then beware.

One thing that did strike me (maybe this is the same for all higher capacity cards (8GB+) is that the card is somewhat thicker than my 4GB SanDisk cards. I don't think this is a huge problem, but you might find the card slightly "sticky" to get in and out of your portable devices. Fingernails helpful...

Customer Review: A great accessory to free-up Canon FS100 and to transfer your footage to your PC/Mac
Summary: 5 Stars

This flash card set is perfect for my needs to transfer my Canon FS100 video footage to my Macbook, while allowing me to still use the camera with another memory card. The biggest advantage of having a separate reader besides freeing up your camcorder is that for the FS100 in particular, you do not have to hassle with the camera AC adapter to transfer footage to your computer. What a dumb rule Canon!

I'd had no problems with file transfer of the reader or the performance of the card itself. Both work flawlessly on my Macbook and iMovie 08 and iPhoto both recognize the card immediately.

I'd recommend Class 6 to achieve the fastest read/write speed possible on the market today and the Transcend brand for the most affordable price. I will to continue to invest in Transcend flash card products as needed for my flash camcorder or even my wife's Canon SD750 digital camera needs (will not work in cameras that do not accept SDHC cars though, like my Powershot S2 IS).

Customer Review: Great for long trips abroad
Summary: 5 Stars

I actually bought this card many months ago before they introduced the reader with it as a package deal, and I am considering buying another one just for the reader. Another reviewer mentions to "think twice" if this is why you might want to buy it, and I am... but the card really is good on its own in any case. I took it to a 3-week pilgrimage in Spain (where computer access was little to none) and was able to save a whopping 729 photographs on a 7.1MP Canon Elph -- plus room for more, I later found. I didn't upload any of the photos until I returned stateside, and many are still on the camera so that I can show them to people using the camera itself.

For computer usage, I found the card to be decent, but not spectacular. It runs ok with an Asus Eee PC on Linux, and ok on a Dell with Vista. Try popping the thing into your Treo, though, and Windows Mobile freaks out a bit.

I think I'll still get another one, though.
