Digital Cameras Photo Reviews of Transcend 16 GB SDHC Class 6 Flash Memory Card with Card Reader TS16GSDHC6-S5W

Customer Review: Excellent value for memory expansion
Summary: 5 Stars

I originally purchased an 8GB Kingston thumb drive to use with my new Dell Mini 9 Netbook. My husband confiscated it, so I went looking for more storage space. I've never used an SD card outside of a digital camera before, but since they seem to last so long in the cameras, I decided to try one in my pc. My netbook has a 16GB flash drive. With this little card in the SD slot, I've doubled my storage capacity! You don't even know it's in there, and there's no worrying about this thing sticking out of the side of your computer that you might hit or break off accidentally. Not only that, but it comes with a card reader so that you can use it with computers that don't have SD card slots, making it that much easier to transfer information and files from one machine to another-- and it's really fast. I tested it running video, audio and office files on it, and it works just as well as any other memory storage I've had. I'm very pleased with this package and will be buying more products like this from Transcend in the future.

Customer Review: Supports Canon S3 IS continous shooting
Summary: 5 Stars

I considered purchasing the 8gb version of this card last fall but opted for a 4gb SanDisk Ultra II because I was afraid the write speeds quoted by Transcend would be too slow to keep up with the S3 when using the higher speed continuous shooting mode at full resolution.

This year, I found my self wanting a larger card to capture video on the S3 so I opted for this 16GB one since it cost about same as what my 4GB SanDisk cost less than a year ago. I figured if it could not keep up with the continuous shooting mode, I still had the SanDisk card to fall back on. After taking several hundred pictures, the Transcend card appears to be every bit as capable as the SanDisk. The class 6 Transcend card, like the SanDisk Ultra II, enables the S3 to take photos in continuous shooting mode until the card is full with no slowdown or write lag. For video, this card is a no brainier because of the size and cost. Class 2 cards are more than fast enough for S3 video at 640x480 so a class 6 card like this one easily meets the camera's write speed requirements.

Customer Review: Works great with my HD camera
Summary: 5 Stars

I have a canon HF10 HD camera and I use this in the extra card bay to record HD footage. It works really well with the camera but the big bonus is the card reader. When I transfer my footage to my hard drive, Final Cut views the card via the card reader AS the camera, so I can log and transfer the footage as if the camera is attached directly to the computer. Otherwise, I have to attach the camera to the computer (laptop) while the footage is transferring and the camera requires you to have it connected to a power source... ugh... too many wires... especially if you are transferring to an external drive as well.

So the card reader is great to have, the card is plenty fast to record/play HD quality footage, + for some reason, the Final Cut log and capture screen thumbnails update almost instantly using the card reader. For some reason the thumbnails take a long time to populate when viewing through the camera.

If you are looking to use this with an HD camera, I say this is your best bet.

Customer Review: Essential purchase
Summary: 5 Stars

IN REGARDS TO THE CANON HF100:

You take the memory card out of the camera, pop it into the reader and insert it into the USB drive of your computer. That being said, it's very simple to use and makes transferring the files off of the card a cinch. For the price this is going, there shouldn't even be any thought behind this purchase, it should just be purchased flat out. You get a 16gb SCHD Class 6 card that:

a) the camera needs to record
b) enough space where at the highest output, you'll get over 2 hours and 20 min of record time

Plus you get the reader which like I said earlier, makes things a whole lot easier to deal with. I'm surprised that the camera didn't already come packaged with something like this in the first place.

(NOTE: I use this on a MacBook and when using iMovieHD, the files are instantly available. This may not be the case for Final Cut Express users who are using versions below 4.0 but don't quote me on that last bit.)

Customer Review: Transcend SD HC Reader works great. Sleek design. Works w/Windows XP
Summary: 5 Stars

I bought the Transcend SD HC card & reader due to the great reviews and sleek design.

Many other SD HC card readers are flimsy, tiny, cheap plastic and break.

This transcend is a light weight plastic and the full size cards slip right into the side. A light in the end of the unit lets you know it works.

You might need an extender cord to get into tight spots. It works ok on my Dell Dimension 5150.

With Windows XP I was able to plug in the card reader and a couple of minutes later I was good to go. No software needed.

Every time I plug it in the reader is recognized automatically.

I took great pictures on the SD HC chip and was able to read them on another combo bluetooth dongle/ sd hc reader.

I just bought the 4GB transcend card. I only transferred pictures, so I don't know about transfer rates, etc.

I bought this for the card reader and am estatic.
