Digital Cameras Photo Reviews of Transcend 16 GB SDHC Class 6 Flash Memory Card with Card Reader TS16GSDHC6-S5WCustomer Review: Excellent reader, great card Summary: 5 Stars
I am not really reviewing the card because I agree with the other positive reviews and have nothing useful to add, and I'm merely using it to store movies to be used with my Creative Zen player (which basically doubles its capacity). So instead, I am focusing on the included reader in this review. In my case, it shipped with a Transcend branded reader, in one of those impossible-to-open-without-shears plastic containers.
First off, the pictures may be misleading - this thing is tiny. The width is about the width of a single SD card, the height is roughly that of three cards stacked, and the length is about two SD cards stacked lengthwise. So, in other words, 2.4 x 0.8 x 5.8 cm [WxHxL]. I'm able to get it to work in both Windows XP and Ubuntu 9.04 without any stability issues whatsoever - plug and play.
When the card reader is getting power from the USB port (when an SD card is in the slot), it lights up as well, which is a convenient feature.
I found the value exceptional as well. The 16GB cards alone (at the time of this review) were only about $5 less than with the reader, and I had another old system lying around that did not have an SD card reader so it made sense in my case to spring for the bundled reader.
So bottom line, the card works great, the reader is tiny in size, compatible with Linux and XP (can't speak to Mac compatibility), and a terrific value.
Customer Review: I bought the 8GB version, loved it, then bought this one, love it more! Summary: 5 Stars
The first version of this card that I purchased was the 8GB. I was a little dubious about buying the card and reader after reading some of the reviews. I usually buy SansDisk products but this card had both the features and the price that I was looking for.
I bought the Transcend 8GB SDHC Card to use in my Samsung SC-HMX20C High Definition camcorder. Although the camera comes with 8GB internal memory I wanted to have more since I plan on using it for video taping wild birds in the field and might not have access to my laptop for downloading the videos. It was essential that I have a Class 6 card since I will be recording in High Definition and will need that kind of speed.
The card worked perfectly in my camcorder. When I plugged the reader and card into my laptop it was recognized immediately. I then downloaded the files to my desktop and viewed them right away. What more could you ask for? I liked it so much that I bought this item, the 16GB (I purchased this one with the reader as well since I sometimes misplace them and wanted a back-up). It gives me a little over 140 minutes of HD recording time in addition to the camera's built in memory. I have tested both of my cards in the field and they live up to (or exceed) my expectations. This a great item and I recommend it.
Customer Review: Truly Droolworthy Technology Summary: 5 Stars
Transcend offers a great combination -- a 16 GB SDHC card and a truly compact card reader -- for an extremely competitive price. There are Class 6 16 gig SDHC cards on the market for more than three times the money.
The reader also allows me to interchange the 16 gig card with a Transcend 8 gig SDHC card that I bought separately, which increases the versatility of both items.
But wait, there's more. ;)
I own an ASUS EEE PC computer (Asus Eee PC 4G (7' Screen, 800 MHz Intel Celeron Processor, 512 MB RAM, 4 GB Hard Drive, Linux Preloaded) Pearl White) that comes with a built-in SDHC slot to enhance on-board hard disk capacity. With the 8 gig Transcend card, and the 16 gig card and the reader it comes with, I can use both if I want to slap 24 super-portable, solid state gigs of fast memory on my EEE when I'm traveling. I've run both cards through the SDHC slot without problem, and using the card reader, I've also tried both from all 3 of the built-in USB slots and from USB hubs attached to each of the 3 USB slots as well.
Bottom line? They work great -- and especially with the ASUS EEE PC.
Good job, Transcend -- highly recommended.
Customer Review: Yes! Summary: 5 Stars
It's great for netbooks. Mine has a four gig (yes, four gigs!) solid state drive, but I knew I could add some storage space with an sd card and/or a usb flash drive. The netbook's ssd can easily be upgraded, too (no need to so far with this sd card inside). This card is four times the size of my ssd, and the great thing is that it can safely stay snapped into the netbook for as long as I want.
That's one drawback of a usb flash drive. It sticks out of the computer's body. This is okay sometimes, but if you want some extra memory that will fit snugly in a computer without the danger of accidentally bumping into it and breaking it, then consider this card. Oh, and you don't have to worry about remembering to bring it with you.
So many people have left usb flash drives in public computers..... it's a horrible thing. Little chance of getting it back unless you go back to the computer right away.
So I heartily recommend this 16 Gb card. As for the performance, it works fine. I've transferred documents and large video files without a problem. I've also played video files from the card. No problem there, either.
I've had it for about a month. I'll maybe update in a few months.
Customer Review: Transcending SanDisk Summary: 5 Stars
I use SanDisk Extreme III (Lumix FZ50) in my professional work, and Ultra II (Lumix TZ5) in my snapshots and most vacations. At the time, the 8 Gb was excellent, and could hold more pix than I would ordinarily take. Wanted to try a 16 Gb, and couldn't find an Extreme, though it was listed, so when I saw the Transcend, thought I'd try it. A friend had the 4 and 8 Gb, and liked them. So I bought, and so far, though it doesn't officially have the weather capabilities of the Extreme, I can't tell the difference in speed of r/w, and find no difference in pic quality. For significantly less money, for non-wilderness/severe weather use, the Transcend appears to be every bit as fast and as good as the SanDisk. The card reader it came with is not quite as nice as the SanDisk's, but so far (3 months of use) works just as well. The 16 has more capacity than I've been able to fill so far, but that just means I don't have to switch cards midstream, and can take marginal pix in addition to primaries, and edit what doesn't come out well. I will consider Transcend along with SanDisk in the future, and unless there is a clear technical advantage, will go with Transcend's lower price.
