Digital Cameras Photo Reviews of Speck Products iPod Video ToughSkin w/ Belt Clip - BlackCustomer Review: Great product for protecting the screen and body. Looks "rugged" Summary: 5 Stars
- iPod screens and surfaces scratch very easily. This cover protects these sensitive surfaces and gives the iPod a rugged look and is easy to grip.
- Rubber surface prevents sliding if left on a vehicle dashboard.
- Probably doesn't make the iPod "drop-proof." Would likely reduce external damage to a dropped iPod, but the shock itself may damage the internal mechanisms of the iPod.
- A little tricky to put on and remove, so plan on leaving it on.
- Screen is removable; doesn't fit particularly well into the rubber cover, but always stays on.
- Does NOT make the iPod waterproof.
- Leaves the headphone port, lock switch, control wheel, and charging port exposed. (also, if not using the belt clip, a small hole in the back will leave the iPod exposed.)
- When cover is on, the exposed charging port will not fit into a jack that is larger then the USB jack that comes with the iPod (such as any type of cradle attachment.)
- Belt clip isn't great for physical activity outside of walking. Recommend buying armband for use in running, jogging, etc.
Customer Review: Excellent Case... out of many others! Summary: 5 Stars
I have always loved cases with belt clips, and this was one of the few that actually works well that includes a belt clip. The belt clip attaches so you can swivel around your iPod, and even take it out while you still have the clip itself on your belt, so that's great when you want to set it down. If you set it down with the belt clip down it's kind of like having a stand for the iPod. Enough about the belt clip. The case itself is pretty sturdy once the iPod is in it. It may not seem like it without the iPod in it, but stick it in, and you'll see. The removable screen protector is a great addon if you end up scratching up your screen protector and can't see the screen anymore, instead of scratching up the screen itself. The only parts exposed on the iPod with this case is the click wheel, Center button, data connector at the bottom, hold button, and headphone jack. That's exactly what you need. Included is a spacer in case you have an 30gig iPod. Basically saying, both the iPod 60 gig and 30 gig fit into this nice case. Out of all the other iPod cases online that you get overwhelmed with, this is THE ultimate iPod Video case.
Customer Review: Saved My iPod Summary: 5 Stars
I can't recommend this case enough. It does precisely what it is intended to do: protect your iPod. The essence of my review is that it saved my iPod. Standing in the lobby of the Moscone Center in San Francisco I watched in horror (complete with that "time slowed down" effect) as I pulled my shoulder bag around to open it and watched my two week old 80 gig video iPod fall in slow motion to the rock hard floor. In the half second it took to reach the floor I was calculating how bad the budget was going to hurt when I went to replace the iPod, how boring that long flight home was going to be, and trying to figure out how to catch it before it hit the floor. Thankfully, I owned this case. The iPod survived in absolutely perfect condition and I was (and still am) a *very* happy camper.
The case fits great, the texture of the covering makes it very hard to slip from your hands and the convenient belt clip makes it very easy to carry with you.
Terrific case. I've since added a Speck case for my Treo and another Speck case for another iPod. Definitely a must have accessory.
Customer Review: Fantastic Case Summary: 5 Stars
I consider this case a part of my iPod. I had an old iPod, and when I get my video and bought this case with it and haven't gone a day without it in a year, and wouldn't suggest it either. I use my iPod in this case everyday, at home and in the car. Will interfere with docks. I used to sell electronics and would always show my ipod with this case to customers. Anyone who says it doesn't fit or that the screen protector doesn't work clearly has done something wrong or had received a defective case.
It's thick, you don't have to worry about every little drop because of it. It's also durable. As some have said, tight pockets can be a bit of a mess since it is rubber, but if you are capable of putting it in your hand and sliding your hand into your pocket then you shouldn't have a problem : )
My suggestion, if you won't use the clip often, then pull the circle out of the case, it makes the shape much more consistent and easier to put into a pocket or sit flat on its back.
Customer Review: Pick this up now for your video iPod!! Summary: 5 Stars
Prior to purchasing this item for my iPod, I used what in effect was a cheap, clear plastic casing....by cheap, I mean it seemed to be cheaply made, but the cost was more expensive than this. It protected the iPod from scratches, but it itself was very seceptable to them, and ended up looking like junk after only about two weeks worth of use. This cover, on the other hand, is black rubber. So far, it has not shown wear too easily. It is easy to hold and is, of course, slip resistant since it is rubber. It comes with a clip so that you can clip it somewhere if you like, which is also better than the previous case that I had. Overall, I like this case a lot better than the ones that I've had and/or looked at in the store, plus it's cheaper. I've seen reviews saying these don't last all that long. I'd clearly have to give it more time to be able to judge that, but it's certainly doing the trick at the moment. Plus, it looks nice with my black iPod, since it is black.....
