Customer Review: My 4x4 iPod

This thing is genuinely neat. I got the black one for my black 80GB video iPod. I had to laugh when I (finally) got my iPod into this thing (no easy feat, let me tell you!): it looks like an iPod wearing a piece of an offroad 4x4 tire--which is just fine with me. It also makes me think of something you might see in Doom3 or Halo... totally rugged and "futuristic". This is a sci-fi fan's iPod case. I have not dropped it (yet), so I cannot attest to any protective qualities it may have, but the silicone is very thick and (reassuringly) strong. Do not try this at home, but I am reasonably sure it would bounce around if I dropped it. I removed the beltclip anchor as I would never use it (I cannot imagine myslf hanging a $[...] piece of hardware on my hip attached by a flimsy piece of plastic that reportedly breaks anyway. Nope, my ipod's travel plans will consist strictly of into and out of the briefcase (or jeans pocket).
Incidentally, you may be interested to know that I bought this case to replace one of those clear acrylic hinged ones that did nothing for my last iPod when I dropped it (may it rest in pieces). No kidding--my friends, you do NOT want to drop an unprotected iPod, and the form-fitting clear case I had for my last iPod may have protected it from scratches, but it offered zero crash protection. I learned my lesson, and this one should do a nice job of both.

I bought this product through a seller on Amazon and my husband absolutely loves it! He's prone to dropping/breaking things and this cover has turned out to be the perfect remedy. It's virtually indestructible and fits snugly over the player. If you have the 30GB iPod video instead of the 80GB, don't worry because it includes an extra piece of padding that fills the extra space and keeps the player perfectly padded and snug. It's made out of a thick rubbery material (similar to the thick rubber flooring they use in weight rooms/gyms) so it's extremely durable and provides great shock absorption. I love that the cover isn't hard and has a little give to it, because when you drop it the player doesn't get jarred around.
Another bonus, and unlike most iPod covers, is that there are adequate holes (for headphones, Hold button, USB connection, etc). You can use every function of your iPod without having to remove it from the protective covering. Honestly, we'll probably never take his iPod out of this cover again.
On a different note...
My husband is a Personal Trainer, so he tends to lean toward the sporty end of the spectrum. When I showed him this product, he loved it because he thought it gave his iPod a slightly more "rugged" look. So for those of you that care about this sort of thing, there's one more reason to buy it.
Customer Review: Indestructible protection for my tunes

This is hands down the best protective case for my ipod that I've ever owned. It is just a little bulky, but it's still a whole lot smaller than the CD case I used to keep in my car. Not only does the rubber case protect the ipod from just about every conceivable type of damage but immersion in water, the thick plastic screen cover protects the screen from all types of damage, as well. The sticky rubber cover also keeps your ipod from sliding all over your car while underway. This case has done a fantastic job of keeping my ipods looking like new.
I have used this case with 30 gb and 160 gb ipods and it fits both like a glove. A rubber filler is included to occupy the extra space when used with the 30 gb ipod so it still fits snugly.
The one issue that other reviewers seem to have with this case is the fact that its bulk doesn't allow the case to be used with an ipod dock. To overcome this spend 6-10 bucks on an ipod dock extension cable and your problems are solved. They're all over Amazon. The extension cable plugs into your dock, then into your ipod, so the ipod doesn't have to fit directly into the dock anymore. Problem solved!
I would absolutely recommend this tough little case to anyone that uses an ipod on the go and doesn't want to have to worry about damaging it.

I tend to be a little tough on things. I'm usually in a rush and I'm not particularly graceful -- let's face it - that combo can make the life of my iPod a little precarious. I needed something that would allow me to take my iPod with me (tossing it into my coat pocket, onto my car seat, etc), and ensure its "safety."
The Speck toughskin has more than once saved my iPod's skin - best example: with the car door, I managed to knock my iPod out of my hand, sending it smacking into the cement wall of my garage, and landing on the cement floor. The rubber toughskin essentially acted like a shock absorber. My iPod was no worse for the experience.
Because of it's design, you do have to take the skin off when you want to dock it. And it's a little bit of a challenge taking it off - it's actually easier putting it back on. But I have to say, the challenge makes me feel more assured that it's not going to be slipping off on me.
The screen is actually protected by a fitted plastic cover - which will help keep your iPod's "face" scratch-free.
This isn't a complaint for me since I wouldn't use it anyway, but my belt-clip broke the first time I tossed my newly clothed iPod into my coat pocket.

I bought the Speck Toughskin for my 80 GB iPod recently and I must say it feels great to have your $350 investment encased in a rugged rubber case! I have a tendency of dropping delicate/expensive equipment especially something as portable as an iPod. But with the Toughskin on it feels a hell a lot safer!
The people at the store told me that it won't fit the 80 gig model but guess what, it fits perfectly! So if you have or are planning to buy the 80 gig video iPod, get this skin, you won't be disappointed. It's a little expensive for a case but it's worth it. Also those who are fans of the iPod's sleek looks might be turned off the rugged looks of the Toughskin. I, on the other hand love the way it looks!
It doesn't look dirty, gives you a better grip on the iPod (which otherwise is pretty slippery!) and has all the essential ports and functions well exposed. The click wheel is not protected but you can always stick a plastic film on the surface and then put the cover on. The screen protector is also nice and clear and fits well.
Overall this is one of the best skins you can get for the iPod. The rugged looks are an added bonus!
