Customer Review: Causes more Problems than Protection Benefits
Summary: 2 Stars

I got this product to protect my MacBook 13" 08 aluminum unibody.

It is hard plastic shell that snaps on to the case.

PROS

Adds "armor" to your Macbook and will certainly prevent dents in the body from moderate drops. I fortunately haven't had any drop incidents with my book and am not sure if the shock due to it being hard plastic (versus a soft silicone shell) might transfer the shock to the hardware and create other problems.

Easy to install--snaps right on.

The plastic locks grab very tightly, so coming off accidentally isn't a problem.

CONS

DIFFICULT TO UN-INSTALL, especially on the screen. But if you want to remove it from the screen, it seems easy to accidentally damage the screen in the process.

Adds thickness and bulk to the sleek Macbook design.

Negates the cooling advantage of an aluminum body, which is really a problem if you are doing process-intensive applications where the macbook relies mainly on the fan. (And if you like to sit with this on your lab on the couch, it is rather easy to block the air with your legs)

Easy to interfere with the opening and closing because the gap is very narrow.

OTHER COMMENTS

I have so far used my Macbook for 2 years with the screen installed.

It has recently acquired a vertical line problem on the screen. I have determined this is a contact problem in the screen itself, and not a GPU or software problem. From what I read is people who have this vertical line problem often have it due to a dent in the screen. The case protected from dents, but may have caused the screen to bend because of obstruction at the hinge. Again, the space at the hinge is very narrow with the case installed and it is easy to pinch something, which would put a bad stress on the screen. My Macbook would creak a lot before the problem when I still had the case on. As soon as the lines appeared I removed the case and the creaking went away, but the lines are still there.

I can't conclusively say that the lines were caused by the screen. But I have not been able to come up with any other logical explanation other than a manufacturer's defect (and I didn't have Apple care because I put my faith in the quality of Apple's products)

For protecting the Macbook, I would not recommend this case at all due to the above problems, which I would consider to far outweight the protection benefit.

Perhaps a silicone or soft rubber case would not have the same problems of closing, but still the heat transfer problems.

The best way to take care of the Macbook is a sleeve when its not in use, and when it is...just be extra careful!

Thanks for the read.

Customer Review: Think Before You Buy THIS
Summary: 2 Stars

I gotta admit, it fits nicely. However there are certain aspects I did not consider before buying this case.

Although it fits, it adds a lot of thickness to a notebook that is notable for being thin and sexy. If you press down on the plastic cover, you will realize that there is a bit of space between the cover and the notebook.

It causes your macbook to heat up quickly. I sometimes have to take off the bottom cover so that my macbook can cool down a bit. Although there is a vent for the macbook, it just doesn't work in the same manner if the aluminum shell is on a surface. Remember, overheating on the laptop can cause damages to the battery...
