Digital Cameras Photo Reviews of Speck PixelSkin Rubberized Case for iPod touch 2G, 3G (Black)

Customer Review: High-functioning Ugly Duckling
Summary: 5 Stars

I have to admit: this case looks a bit like a tire tread.

But I love its functionality!

It slips on or off in two seconds (literally), fully covering the back and perimeter of the device (in my case, an iPod touch 3G) while leaving the screen exposed and the cable/earphone jacks accessible. The on/off, home, and volume buttons are covered yet respond perfectly to pressure/touch through the case. It's practically weightless and adds minimal bulk. It shows no smudges or fingerprints (but is washable if there's a need) and feels good in the hand -- the supple rubberized material creates some drag so the device won't slip out of your grasp or slide off a table. I did think the wi-fi responded a little more slowly the first time I accessed it with this case on, but now I don't notice a delay.

Highly recommended! I combined it with PowerSupport's crystal film TU301LL/A (to protect the screen surface) and a BuiltNY neoprene Digital Case (when traveling).

Customer Review: Great case, crappy screen cover
Summary: 5 Stars

The actual rubber case, which is what the item description is really advertising, is absolutely perfect for the ipod touch. It fits snugly and, although I've yet to drop it, it seems like it provides adequate protection from normal wear and tear. Also, as an added bonus, the manufacturer includes an additional case that is identical except in color (the second case is translucent white). Also included is a screen protector, which really doesn't even cling or stick to the ipod in any remote fashion. It's nice that it was included, but it really isn't a long-term solution for screen protection; I basically just shoved it under the upper and lower edges of the rubber case, which was the only way I could make it [sort of] stay in place. I will continue to use it temporarily until I find a suitable replacement. Shipping was extremely fast (less than 5 days from California to the east coast) and the case seems to be high quality. For the price, it's hard to beat. It looks great and fits perfectly. Highly recommended for those still looking for a way to protect their investment.

Customer Review: Impressed so far...
Summary: 5 Stars

Only had the case for a few days, but the fit is great on my 32 gb 3rd gen touch. I just needed a little protection as I'm very easy on things, but these ipod touches scratch up on the back soooo bad. I wish I would have ordered this originally when I bought the ipod (from Amazon of course)

A few notes for people thinking of buying it.

I paid under 5 bucks to get it...well worth it.

The material the product is made from (soft rubber) also covers the home button on the touch. Seems to line up perfectly...I didn't expect this when I ordered, not sure if I wasn't paying attention or what, but overall that's a nice touch to the case.

The volume rocker and the sleep/wake button are also covered. Though both spots have indentations on the case to allow the buttons to work through the case. Works well and I've noticed no difference.

If I had to pick on anything, it would be that adding a case makes the ipod seem small. Other then that, glad I got the case. Would order another.

Customer Review: My son loves it!
Summary: 5 Stars

Bought this for my son and he really likes it. His favorite feature is the raised checkerboard pattern on the back. He said it makes the iPod a lot easier to hold onto when his hands are sweaty and it prevents the iPod from sliding so it will be less likely to get accidentally knocked off a table or desk top. The case fits the iPod very well: snugly, but not so tight that it is difficult to put it on. The spongy plastic is thick and seems like it will protect the iPod from a minor fall. The only drawback is that it does muffle the speaker a little (there aren't any holes in the back to let the sound through). Doesn't bother my son, he just turns the volume up a little louder when he's playing games.

It is three times more expensive than the thin rubberized plastic case I bought for my daughter's iPod, but it feels like a higher quality product and the thickness seems like it will absorb more abuse than the thinner case. Regardless, my son loves it, so that makes it perfect! :)

Customer Review: Phenomenal case, but...
Summary: 5 Stars

With one (very minor) drawback, this is an absolutely perfect case for a 3G iPod Touch. The case's construction is first-rate, the materials are top-notch, and the special molding over the iPod's buttons makes them easy to find even though they're completely covered by the case.

The only drawback is one stemming from personal preference. The rubberized coating provides a LOT of slip-resistance. This is great if your iPod is on a table or a car dashboard (it ain't goin' nowhere), but not so great if you need to slip it in and out of the front pocket of your jeans or khakis on a regular basis.

I'm definitely not sorry I bought this case, but I've just ordered a much cheaper smooth silicone case from EForcity to see if I can get a little more slipperiness without losing much in the way of protection.

Even if that doesn't pan out, I'll happily come back to this case. It's so good in every other respect that its one drawback is trivial in comparison.
