Digital Cameras Photo Reviews of Speck PixelSkin Rubberized Case for iPod touch 2G, 3G (Black)Customer Review: Great Case, may interfere with Wifi Signal, Speck's Customer service is Awesome! Summary: 5 Stars
Great case, but may interfere with wifi signal for your iTouch! First of all, let me say that I really like this case. It seems as though it would really protect your iTouch if you accidentally dropped it. It adds to the overall size of the iTouch and makes it easier for larger hands to use it. The reports about it being a lint magnet are definitely true, but that is a non-issue for me as I am more interested in protecting my investment. I also like the fact that the case has external sections that line up with the iTouch buttons on the sides and help you in pressing those often difficult-to-press buttons. However, sadly, the major drawback I had with this case is the fact that it was causing me to lose Wifi signal in various places. I did brief testing with it in different areas to make sure that was the problem, and sure enough, with the case removed, I got perfect signal once again. This leads me in to my next review: Speck's customer service. Now, go ahead, tell me I shouldn't be reviewing the company in this review, but I say it is worth talking about. I contacted Speck customer service to see if anyone had reported similar issues with this particular case. They responded within 10 minutes of my initial email and began working on a resolution. The next day, after researching the issue, the customer service rep informed me that there were no known issues with the case causing signal interference. The rep then proceeded to offer me a replacement case. Not wanting to choose the same type of case again, I decided to go with their opaque black acrylic (or plastic) case. The price difference between the replacement case and one I originally bought was double. Not only did Speck replace the case for FREE, they also shipped it FREE using Fedex 3 day shipping. Overall I am impressed with 2 things: The quality of their products and their phenomenal customer service. They were friendly and fast, and that makes me a Speck customer far into the future!
Hope this review helps someone make the right choice!
Customer Review: Excellent and functional Summary: 5 Stars
Love my Speck case. I use it for my 3rd gen Ipod Touch...
The case fits very well and doesn't allow the ipod to rattle around in there. The front of the case also covers the home button, which I like. The case also covers the controls for volume and on/off; all these controls work well through the cover. The case itself is heavily textured with square blocks. They are not bulky or unattractive, in my opinion, but they really add grip. The case really prevents the ipod from sliding around on any surface I've tried: smooth surfaces on a table or car dashboard, and upholstered surfaces as on chairs or car seats. This is a huge plus, but the surface of the case traps lint and that gets into the ridges. Small price to pay, I think. The rubberized case will makes it difficult to slide in and out of a pocket- this is the trade off you get for having it easy to grip and not easy to slide. It's not a problem for me, but then I'm not constantly moving it in and out of my pocket.
My case is black, which makes the ipod less conspicuous and more utilitarian. It's not a fashion statement for sure, but I like the look and feel it is less of a target for theft than many of the cases that have more bling. Lastly, the case offers really good protection of the ipod from falls, as my toddler so efficiently proved the first day I had it. It took a tumble onto a hardwood floor from about two feet - no damage whatsoever. While not bulky, the case is soft and thick enough to provide excellent protection from bumps, scrapes, and the occasional toddler. The only thing I would like better is for the lower part by the connector to be slightly stiffer; as it is, the material is soft enough so that it pulls up rather easily and I fear lint building up in there. All things considered, this case is the best I've seen. I would definitely buy this one again.
Customer Review: overall excellent ipod touch 2G & 3G case Summary: 5 Stars
I bought this for my 32 GB 3G iPod touch that I received as a bday present.
I researched for weeks for the best overall case for an iPod touch because I'm really OCD with my electronic devices.
I originally though about a hard case for the iPod touch, but realized that would be a bad decision if I dropped the iPod. There would be no impact absorption with a hard case. I'm glad I went with a rubber/gel one.
The photos on Amazon of the product does no justice for the product itself. The checker box design on the back of the case is actually pretty nice and also feels very very good in your hands. You'll never have the feeling that it will slip off, etc.
It hugs the iPod touch very well. No loose areas and importantly it isn't a pain to take the case on and off the iPod touch. Cleaning the case is very easy with water and soap. Not a problem at all.
The case protects the on/off button and the volume rocker buttons as well. They are not hard to press or control with the rubber case on. Also, the bottom area has a long "hole" on it for the iPod connector and the earphone jack. Very easy to put on and off the cables with the case on.
I, like other people worried about the back of the iPod being scratched while in the rubber case. To counter that, I bought the back only film protector from BodyGuardz for about $20 and put it on the iPod before putting it in the Speck case. Also purchased a film protector for the screen from PowerSupport (TU301LL/A Crystal film set iPod touch 2G) because the Speck does not come with screen protection.
One neat thing about the Speck case is that the home button is protected the rubber casing. That's a plus.
I recommend this case for anyone with an iPod touch.
Customer Review: Very pleased! Summary: 5 Stars
I had received this case along with my ipod touch several weeks ago and have had the speck case on it since the day I got it. I must say that I am very impressed with this case. It does its job-- and does it in style, too. The ruggedized back certainly adds more grip, and prevents the ipod from slipping from your pocket or on a table. In some cases, the case improves grip a little too much - in pockets not made of a very smooth material, it is hard to get out. however, I'd rather know that it is snug in my pocket than be scared it might fall out. It is also very easy to put on and take off, and cleaning it is a breeze. Just take it off, rinse it with some water and dry, it is really that easy. As the case covers the buttons, it takes a little more effort to get them to push down, but this is a very small thing for me and it does not affect use at all. It does not come with a screen protector, but I solved that by getting an invisible shield (if your getting this case, just get the front, the back is a total pain in the butt to put on and look at afterwards, trust me - ZAGG invisibleSHIELD for iPod touch 2G, 3G (Front)) and that works just fine. I love it!
Pros:
-stylish
-improves grip in hand, pocket and on table
-easy to clean
-adds little bulk
Cons:
-Sometimes hard to take out of your pocket
-Buttons a little hard to press down
My recommendation: Buy it! It is a stylish case and great protection for your new investment.
Customer Review: Terrific Case! I use it with a my gen 3 64GB Touch Summary: 5 Stars
I agonized over a case selection ever since buying my 64GB gen 3 iPod nearly two months ago. I had not yet used it because I was afraid I'd break it or jack it up with scuff marks and scratches if I used it without a case (and likely would have). I originally searched for a case that offered screen protection as well as body protection. After failing to find a decent one I finally decided to trust the positive reviews on the Speck. Boy am I glad I did! The quality is top notch. The case arrived in quality packaging and slipped very easily over my new touch. There was no pulling or need to force it in. the fit was snug enough to inspire confidence in the safety of my device but not tight or stressing at all. For the screen I just picked up a pack of clear overlay screen protectors (which ironically took much longer to install than the Speck Case). The case did not increase the bulk of the unit much at all. The iPod is still nice, slender, and small, case and all. It has a nice solid rubber feel and I no longer feel like a clumsy drop is inevitable whenever I pick up my new iPod. Although the case covers the side and top buttons, there are moldings to indicate their location and it doesn't interfere in any way with operation. The bottom ports are unobstructed and easily accessible. The case (so far) doesn't seem to attract fuzz or dust as I expected it to (given the material). I highly recommend this case if you're searching for a decent case for your gen 3 (or older) iPod Touch.
