Customer Review: Very good for price I paid - but not very good sound

I'm giving this unit four stars because it is a nice looking unit with decent features and I got it for a good price. However, the sound quality leaves me wanting better. I'd give the sound quality for music a 2.5 or maybe a 3 if I'm feeling generous (out of 5). However, for the price I paid I can't complain much so I'm giving it 4 stars taking price into account. Just don't expect 4 or 5 star quality sound. If you're listening to podcasts, then it should be fine but I wouldn't recommend it for listening to music unless you're not into hi-fi sound or are limited to something of this size.
UPDATE: Cannot use as a computer speaker even when plugged in with the AC adapter because it seems to power itself off if there's a few minutes of no sound.

Hi i bought this as a gift for my girlfriend for her birthday. She has a 4th generation ipod and it works (which i didn't check if it was compatible so a relief there). This product weights around 6lbs, its very small and compact (a bit bigger than a Nintendo Game Cube). The sound is 4 stars out of 5, you need to adjust the treble. The remote is awesome, small and you can operate it from a distance of 15 feet. Also its very loud we tested it connecting it to a pc and listening guitar hero III threw it :).
Very happy with the buy.
ps. The quality of sound is not excellent because its a sub woofer speaker, if you can find the speakers that go with the product i can assure you the sound will be neat :).

I bought this speaker system at the beginning of 2008 because I was looking for an affordable speaker/dock for my iPod for my kitchen/living room area. What's great about this product is that it's fairly inexpensive (Amazon is a lot cheaper than the stores I've seen it in) and produces a pretty good sound. Granted, it certainly doesn't perform as well as Bose or other high end systems, but I didn't expect such a good sound for such a reasonable price. Also, it's pretty small so it doesn't take up too much counterspace and is easily portable. The remote is a nice touch as well. So if you're looking for an iPod speaker system that has a nice sound and doesn't break the bank, this may be for you.Customer Review: Awesome for price paid

I have another more expensive unit also from iHome. I was constantly moving it around to the kitchen while cooking or to the yard for BBQs. When I saw this in Gold Box for twenty bucks I snagged it, just to have a second unit that I could permanently leave in the bedroom. It works well and definitely serves its purpose. It's not the most phenomenal sound, but it's pretty darn good. It definitely sounds alot better than one should expect for the price paid. If you're looking for amazing sound quality, this may not be the unit for you. But, if you're looking for bang-for-buck, and intend to use it to casually listen to music, this system is perfect.Customer Review: A winner

SDI Technologies iH80B Speaker System for iPod (Black)
I bought this for my husband, a music fanatic. I got a great deal and I figured it would be easier to transport this unit than his large boom box - especially when we travel. He's hard to please on the "sound" front, but I know he likes this speaker because he actually carries it with him when he gives bass guitar lessons so he can play examples of music to his students. The sound will fill a large room and is very clear and hearty. We are super pleased with the speaker.
