Digital Cameras Photo Reviews of Sling Media Slingbox SOLO (SB260-100)Customer Review: Slingbox Summary: 5 Stars
Ordered Slingbox because cable is not available where I live and can't afford satellite TV. Once I understood what Slingbox does, it was easier to accept its limitations. Also renders the digital conversion moot since I can watch satellite TV from my boyfriend's TV. I wouldn't recommend it if one doesn't spend a lot of time on the road with a laptop - the resolution is somewhat diluted and the response time is slowed - but it sure beats the heck out of the five digital stations I can receive - two PBS and three Spanish language. The Slingbox provided an affordable alternative to adding another $80 minimum monthly payment to my already dwindling resources by having to subscribe to a satellite TV company.
Customer Review: slingbox solo review: awesome Summary: 5 Stars
it's great. works as advertised. setup was a snap. the only thing is that I've read amongst some sites (not sure if it was CNet, etc) that the actual Slingbox hardware/software is starting to be embedded into DVR's nowadays (the disadvantage currently being that if you remotely take over the cablebox, etc, then the person viewing locally will be forced to view the same thing.. something I'm sure many people have commented on). anyway, I view US tv and cable programs while I am located in Japan so the timezone difference works to my advantage anyway. I also saw they are coming out with the software to support Sling media on iPhone and Blackberry... more toys to play with (and more money to waste, I guess :)
Customer Review: SlingBox Rocks - Depending on your Connection Summary: 5 Stars
I purchased the SlingBox Solo for watching NFL and other DVR programming while abroad. It comes through with flying colors. IF you are a crybaby who MUST have HD quality no matter where you are, tough. The quality of signal completely depends on your internet/broadband connection. Still, the fact you can watch your own television 4000 miles away from your own country is amazing and worth any signal quality loss. I watched my DVR from my seat on Delta Airlines 37,000 feet up and 3000 miles over the Atlantic! Delta's wifi was a bit slower than the average connection but I understand and so should YOU. Do yourself a favor and get a SlingBox but realize it cannot always be in perfect HD. Deal with it.
Customer Review: Slingbox Summary: 5 Stars
I bought the Slingbox Solo and Turbo, as my router is not close to my HDTV. The setup process took about 15 minutes, and the Sling Box works great. I use it to watch recorded programs while travelling on my laptop, the quality is generally very good. One problem that the Sling Box has, if you connect your cable box to your HDTV using an HDMI cable, you will only get a video signal using the analog video cable, when connecting the SlingBox to your cable box. The composite cable connection will not work, so you will not get a HD connection. I contacted technical support and Sling Box does not have a fix for this yet. I have a Scientific Atlantic Explorer 8300 HD cable box and a Samsung HDTV.
Customer Review: Much Improved Over The Pro Summary: 5 Stars
I have spent the last couple hours playing with the new Slingbox Solo. In comparison to the Slingbox pro I like this new model better. It is about 1/2 the size and does not need an extra dongle for HD video.
The software to setup the device is very easy and very fast. Video quality on a home network is superb. Internet is not bad but depends on how much upstream bandwidth you have available.
The only gripe I have with it is the unit does not come with any component cables. This however is a small gripe.
Overall this device is well worth the money if you like watching TV.
Hopefully slingmedia will come out with an iPhone client soon.
