Customer Review: Works as advertised
Summary: 5 Stars

My daughter will be working as a law clerk for the next year. Her hours are 09:30-01:30 so she won't be home much. She only has a couple of shows she wants to watch. She will be in CA and I am in KS. It seemed ideal for us to have her tap into our DVR, record the shows and then watch them after mom and dad go to bed. It's no skin off our nose what our DVR does at night and it saves her a ton of money.

Installation of the Slingbox and Slinglink took about 3 hours. The hardest part was that I got confused over which software package needed to be installed. Also, I was working with my daughter in Chicago (law school) to get her going and I had her install the wrong software for remote watching.

Memo: SlingPlayer is really for local watching and Slingbox management. [...].

I got the HD box to go with my HD DVR. I have the cheapest cable based internet connection (384K upload) and my daughter seems to be able to stream video just fine.

My only criticism would be the software installation. I could have used an overview of just what I was supposed to do. There are several software packages and I wasn't sure which one was the one I wanted.

Customer Review: Couldn't be happier with my purchase

I ordered this product because I travel between Las Vegas and New York/New Jersey a lot. I just recently installed Verizon FIOS service in Jersey and wanted to be able to stream this content when I am in Las Vegas. My experience with the box has been wonderful.

Now it is true that this product does not have HDMI and it only supports 720p/1080i resolutions, but guess what? No station broadcasts in 1080p anyway. Also, things don't have to be pass through. You can connect the cable box via HDMI to your TV while also connecting the Slingbox to the cable box via the component cables and a digital audio cable (sold separately) or the standard audio cables included (red/white cords).

In Jersey I have a desktop computer with an HD video card, and it's connected to my Sharp Aquos LC52D85U 52-Inch 1080p 120Hz LCD HDTV. The resolution is beautiful, not as sharp as watching the cable box natively, but it has the added benefit of a 60 minute buffer. It's like a mini-dvr ability.

Anyone contemplating getting this device, I say contemplate no more, it's a smart buy.

Customer Review: Been in use 2 years

I purchased the SlingboxProHD in September 2009 to watch football while on the road. Hooked it up to my Scientific Atlanta HD-DVR box from Comcast and freed myself from the TV. We primarily use the box in three ways:

1) Away from home via computer to an HDMI-out to hotel TV.
2) On the dual display LCD monitor in the kitchen for a TV where there is no coaxial output.
3) On mobile devices (iPad and iPod Touch) for on the go.

My siblings are also able to share the box and follow hometown football from their homes. Just program the DVR and everyone gets to replay when they need.

Hook up is fairly simple.

Analog Pass-Thru = coaxial from wall to Slingbox to cable box to TV.
Digital Pass-Thru = component cables from cable box to Slingbox to TV

There is one caveat though. If your cable box is like most you cannot hook up the cable box to your TV via HDMI. If you try your component outputs will be disabled at the cable box and Slingbox will get no signal. This is a flaw in the HDCP copy-protection scheme which keeps consumers from recording HDMI/High Def feeds (thank you bloodsucking Hollywood!!!!).

Customer Review: It works as intended
Summary: 5 Stars

The Slingbox HD is a pretty cool idea. My wife is currently deployed in Germany right now and she was missing home. I thought this would be a great way for her to feel a little less lonely. So long story short, we bought her the Slingbox.

Setup:
It does takes some time to get it all going. However, if you can follow some basic instructions you will be just fine. The only thing that suprised me is I didn't feel the instructions were spelled out too well as far as hooking it up to a cable box. Oh well, a little common sense and you will be just fine.

Use:
Perfect. You select what cable company you use. Then a represenation of the remote control that you have at home will show up on your PC screen. You simply click the buttons just like you would at home.

Quality:
This is not a HD experience. But you have to understand the limitations. For what the intended purpose is the product works better than expected. However, if you want a movie experience forget about it.

Overall:
I love it. She can record whatever she wants and watch it as she sees fit. It was worth every penny.

Customer Review: Works Great with DirecTV
Summary: 5 Stars

Wanted to add my $0.02 and say that the Slingbox works as well as i had hoped, and I expected a lot. This will change my world of TV/DVR viewing for sure. Now i can access the DVR that I have setup (in the downstairs home office) and access that when I am on the road, without getting in the way of my wife's programming in the family room. In fact, i can watch shows from the downstairs DVR on my laptop in the kitchen! In fact, if you were thinking about a display in the kitchen, this could be a shortcut for you.

Works fine with a normal wi-fi "g" network (in HD as well). That is, the Slingbox is connected by Cat6 cable to the router; watching it over our wi-fi is no problem.

Works great with my DirecTV HD-DVR, even though in the Slingbox setup they didn't have my exact model number (which is HR23-700), but i picked the next closest one (HR22), and it works fine with no discernible difference to the real remote.

You are essentially sitting at your TV with your remote in hand (or, in mouse). It's awesome...
