First off, I've been a user of the slingbox for almost two years, have two pro hd's and also have the Sony Locationfree device. Locationfree uses the same technology as Slingmedia except sling's technology is more refined. The location free using the same location, internet, and everything else, constantly skips and pauses when watching for long periods. The slingbox, however, doesn't do that as often. My internet speeds from the slingbox location is usually 1mb up, 5-8mb down. The place where I usually sling is 3mb down, .7 up. Very decent quality on a 26" flat screen.
Warranty/Customer Service
I suggest anyone who will depend on watching slingbox as your primary means of TV to get the extended warranty. Many are confusing the 90 day warranty with the actual 1 year warranty. The warranty is 1 year. The customer support is 90 days. The customer service, however is not as great at times but once you confuse them, they usually will give you what you want. If not, hang up and call another person. I've called them for support after the 90 day period and just told them there were problems with it. They exchanged it for me without a problem. This was for a slingcatcher though, but I don't see a problem when asking for a slingbox pro hd. If it does break after the warranty period, they offer a replacement for $150. BUY THE EXTENDED WARRANTY!
Overall impression
This thing is the best. I have two, purchased the extended warranty, and supposedly, I can apply it to any of the pro hd's I have. Cable cost nearly $100 dollars per month. Internet cost less way less.

I bought the Slingbox HD-Pro about a month ago and love it. It came in a well protected box with everything in it as advertised. I had to go out and buy a few extra cables for it to make it work. No biggie. Just a quick drive down to radio shack and I was able to get what I wanted for 15 bucks. Slingbox can't really carry everything in the box for everyone's different audio/video setups so I wasn't annoyed by having to purchase an extra cable. It took me about an hour to get the right setup for my box to work. The instructions are just okay. I'm pretty good at setting stuff up but still had to read carefully and figure out what I had and what I wanted to use for my box/cable/tv setup. Anyhow - I finished the setup and fired up my laptop. Go to the website and download what you need to make it work. Voila! It worked on the first try and I haven't had any hiccups. There was another update to the software that I downloaded and still no hiccups. It works like a champ. I even have the Slingplayer Mobile on my Ipod Touch. That works just as well if not better. No problems with that either. I only have good things to say about the Sling. I thought about other devices that advertise the same service but I gave Slingbox a try after hearing my friends say good things about it. If you want it - go for the Sling. I love mine and so far, so good. I have Verizon Fios at home and use primarily hotel wi-fi on the road. It sometimes stutters when buffering but it usually settles down without any problems. Sling is King in my book. I dedicated a cable box/DVR and accessories to her in a separate bedroom, so that she didn't have to worry about changing the channel on one of the boxes I view. That room has no network connection, so I bought Slinglink, praying that it would work as advertised; it absolutely does. I had no difficulty setting up the equipment though I had to unplug the Slinglinks once to get the Slingbox registering the network connection.
The installation process was easy, but we had a glitch in the internet viewing install even though the Slingbox software said that I had successfully installed it. My friend and I were on Google chat together trying to puzzle out the problem. Big complaint: Slingbox support sucks; if you have a problem, go to a user forum. At the end of two hours, when my IT savvy friend had exhausted all possible solutions, she found a forum in a Google search. We followed the suggestion for our situation--she was seeing my Slingbox but couldn't connect--by reinstalling the internet viewing piece, and like magic, she was watching American television. It's a minute or two to get going, but then it's an excellent connection. I spent a happy couple of hours, teaching her about the remote and what's on all those channels, and I left her a happy, happy woman.
Highly recommended but you are on your own resources if you hit a snag.

Everything about the Slingbox is well thought out. It is simplistic, but it does what you expect it to do and that is to allow you to have HD TV on your computers, Smart Phones, or any other Video depending on the components you have hooked to it. Getting set up is pretty easy. I did have some trouble going through the set up, but there is plenty of online assistance to get you past any hic-ups along the way. There was a place in the set up where you test for internet connectivity. The meter would stop at 40%. I found out through searching on Google that I had to go into my router setup and uncheck the plug and play check box (UpnP). If you are a computer novice, you will end up with a much better knowledge once you get done learning about Port Forwarding and other stuff that you have in your router. I have also been setting up IP cams, and this information is useful for setting them up as well.
My brother has a Slingbox in Pa. Mine is in NC. I can watch his, and he can watch mine. It is nice when there are Sporting events that are not broadcast in NC and I can watch the Eagles and Phillies when I want.
I have the Slingbox App on my Iphone. It works very well. Do I watch TV on my cell phone? Not too much, but if there is something I want to see, and I am somewhere I couldn't normally see it, I can watch on my cell phone.
You will not be disappointed!

Okay, maybe not since sliced bread per se, but in the technology world, close to it! :) This thing pays for itself in the long run if you continue to keep cable/satellite. It makes it more viable now because you can watch it anywhere you go. Those who don't use cable or satellite, etc. anymore are nuts because where are you going to find your favorite sports games? Why would you watch it if it wasn't live?
The Android application costs an additional $30 to view the Slingbox but it's pretty optimized for the device so I don't mind it. It simply doesn't work in a browser for non-traditional devices to include the PlayStation 3. However, on a PC it is perfect! In fact you can view it in hi-def 1080i (wish there was a way for 1080p however, but due to the component cables that's not possible). There is a slight delay on the phone, but none on the PC. It is a bit worse video on the Android app but for its small screen, it's better quality than even FloTV I think (plus it fills the full widescreen of your phone!).
Anyway, I love this piece of gadgetry and its uses, especially for on the go, but also for the fact that I can watch anywhere in my house without getting other DVRs. The Slingbox Pro HD is the perfect system to allow you to control and watch your DVR broadcasts just as you would in front of your TV.
