Digital Cameras Photo Reviews of Sling Media Slingbox AV (SB240-100)

Customer Review: Good as it's billed
Summary: 5 Stars

For 120 bucks, you can watch your DVR on your computer anywhere there's an internet connection. That means live, local TV or anything you recorded. It means you can set it for a program if you're away. It works over your computer just like your home DVR, with a computer image of your remote.
The customer service was outstanding. Setting up, I was having problems with my router communicating with my Slingbox. So, I went on "chat" with customer service. I allowed her to "take over" my desktop remotely. (That might scare off some people, but I assume Slingbox bonds their CSRs.)She set my Linksys to my Slingbox in minutes while I watched. Amazing. So is this device.

Customer Review: Fantastic device for busy people
Summary: 5 Stars

This slingbox is fantastic! I use it on both Mac OS X and Windows XP and it works seamlessly with both. It is able to stream live TV effortlessly to laptop, desktop and my Treo 700W (Verizon). I use this primarily while on call at the hospital because the hospital cable doesn't carry a lot of sports stations, but I can also use it to watch movies on HBO, recordings from my DVR, etc. Setup was very easy, but I would recommend setting up the port forwarding manually instead of relying on UPnP (this is very easy to do and the software walks you through it!) to prevent your router from dropping the connection on occasion. I would recommend this device to anyone.

Customer Review: Remote Cable TV Viewing
Summary: 5 Stars

I unpacked it, hooked it up, and it worked perfectly. I haven't experimented yet with hooking it up to different hardware (only hooked up to cable box...not yet to VCR/DVD/etc.). I was very pleasantly surprised when I was at a remote location that I really could do all of the things as if I were there at home: view the guide, change the channel, control the DVR, etc. The DVR was the big bonus. A few "techie" notes: I'm running Vista, and it works fine. Video stream is about 400 kbps, and CPU useage is actually pretty low (I can use Skype simultaneously with no noticeable audio degratation--Skype is a bit of a CPU hog).

Customer Review: Amazing product
Summary: 5 Stars

When the slingboxes first came out I spent quite a bit of time trying to figure out how this thing works. At first I thought it would be some piece of junk that had a hidden flaw or catch. After all the raving reviews and ratings I saw for the sling I finally dove in. I can't tell you how unbelievably easy it was to set up and use it remotely. High quality software and hardware. My only complaint is the video compression/quality could be better. It's a little hard to watch football remotely @ 420 kbps although do able. If you watch football within the LAN (1000-2000kbps) then it looks fine. Definitely a good buy!

Customer Review: Wayyyyy Coolness
Summary: 5 Stars

I love this thing. I can watch TV anywwhere on my Nokia Smartphone using sling player. Also can watch TV (and Tivo) on my laptop when I'm travelling.

Video quality is much better than I expected.

Set up was easy- initially I was afraid that setting up something that sounds this complicated would be a nightmare. It comes with excellent set up instructions: I was up and running in 20 minutes without needing tech support, FAQ's, or searching for answers on the web.

This thing is too cool: if you have Tivo and a Smartphone you must get a slingbox.
