A friend of mine purchased this for Christmas and raved about it. Since I commute a long distance for work and spend a considerable amount of time away from home, this product was a great idea but I was concerned about how well it would work. Since the box monopolizes a cable box, I set up one box that wouldn't be used. It took all of 10 minutes to set up and was working like a charm. I was still worried that it wouldn't work once I left my home network but I just tried it and it works great. Of course, the quality of the video isn't perfect but it's very good especially in smaller sizes. The docking is great--I'm using it right now while I type this review and watch Jay Leno. There is a slight delay when sending commands to from your computer to the cable box but given that it's several hundred miles away, a 2-second delay is entirely reasonable. I have not noticed any delay between audio and video. If you've watched good quality DVD rips, this is similar quality. As well, the ability to create "hotkeys" for each station means I don't have to remember channel numbers for each place I'm in.
I can't recommend this product enough for technophiles, TV lovers, and gadgeteers. For a little over $100 this is an easy investment to make.

This box really will totally out perform your expectations... I have an airport extreme N router... (you do have to plug it directly into the router...wireless requires another $70 piece) setup takes about 10 min and youre ready to go... the video quality over my home network is pretty amazing... comparable to "HD" videos that you can download (trailers, etc.) If I watch it at work or from another internet connection it is a little better than youtube quality... I mainly use it for home use to watch tv in bed on my laptop so the quality away from my network doesnt really matter... but I have been watching march madness at work and it is good enough quality to be able to read the scores and clock at the bottom(youtube quality you wouldnt be able to) overall it is a must buy!!! I am glad I had it for spring break while i was out of town I thought my DVR is probably pretty close to being full... I got online from 1200 miles away and deleted the stuff i didnt need... it was at 97% and I wouldnt have gotten an entire week of shows i wanted to see... another note to add.... I cant connect to it from school because of the firewall... so if youre main location for where you would be using it has a firewall you might want to check about it first...Customer Review: Slingbox SERVICE review

If you read any review here, you will know this system really works. It's not magic, just good technology.
What I can offer are two comments - both great - about their service & what happens after purchase.
1) I had troubles configuring my router to allow internet access (DMZ, etc.) They took control of my computer's screen (with my permission) and got it working.
When I changed routers - they again configured it so that it worked. Period.
Outstanding!
2) I broke the IR control cable off from the back of the unit while I was moving things around. I grabbed the wire, not the metal plug & the wire separated from the plug (which was still in the unit.) My bad - without the IR cable, no remote control.
I emailed support requesting a location to purchase another cable: their response - "call us." This seemed strange, but I went with it...
On the phone - the answer: you do not need to purchase another cable - we will send you one within 5 days - what's your address?
Outstanding!
No money, no credit card, they just wanted the address and the serial number (presumably to protect against abuse.)

I haven't been this excited after buying a product in years. I purchased this unit after having FIOS installed and I can't believe the quality. This unit blows away any of the other setups which I had previously used. I watch all my channels, On Demand, and PPV events in my garage over a wireless-g connection and it comes in flawlessly. I have also connected over the internet from a relative's house and the quality was awesome.
Pros:
- Packaging was cool (This normally doesn't phase me, but wait til you see it)
- The unit was smaller than I thought, small footprint and sat right on top of the set-top box
- Fast and Easy setup, included software does the work for you, it can even open the necessary port on your firewall/router. If not, there are instructions and it's fairly simple
- Software was compatible with my Motorola set-top box and the virtual on screen remote actually has more functional buttons than my original remote
Cons: None
After watching a UFC PPV event in my garage, my buddies were so impressed that some of them went and bought one. For the price, you can't beat it!

Installation can be challenging; at least it was for me. Follow the instructions carefully, and even then, be prepared to guess at a couple of steps.
I originally attempted to install my Slingbox AV without using a router, instead swapping my ethernet cable between two computers. Big mistake; it won't work. The manufacturer warns that one needs a router for the type of configuration I was attempting, but I didn't see the notice until later.
Even after I bought a router, I had to obtain help from SlingBox's support center to get everything to work. Some things can't be fixed when you're in a remote location; you need to have your traveling computer hooked up to the Slingbox via your router.
But once you've installed it, it does work very well. I have a reasonably good, but not excellent, connection at my remote location, and Slingbox seems to have engineered the compression algorithms expertly, because I get a fairly good picture even at the rather low streaming rate of 300 kb/sec.
