Digital Cameras Photo Reviews of Skullcandy (Product Out Of Date, Newer Version Available) SC-SBB3.5 Smokin' Earbud BlackCustomer Review: Ugly to look at, beautiful sounds! Summary: 5 Stars
So, I live with my earbuds in nearly 8 hours a day. The only ones I have found to be comfortable have been the Phillips (noise-cancelling version), Sony and now these. I think that the actual plastic portion and silicon portion are probably made in the same factory. Though, I have no idea who has ear canals big enough to accomodate anything but the smallest size!
Now, I have owned and used Sony EX51 and EX71 and they are great! However, I really can't believe the sound difference between the 9mm driver in the EX51/71 and the 9mm driver in these CHEAPER earbud headphones. They are superior at all frequencies! Thicker, deeper base... more sparkling on the top end too!
Now mind you, the housing, general assembly, and cords do seem cheeper than Sony or Phillips (you can tell that asthetics and high-end plastics weren't the goal)...but even at high retail (I had a gift card for Bestbuy and paid 30$ on these), they are worth it!
They produce more volume than the Phillips Noise-Cancelling, and they don't have the stupid inline "power-booster" which required a battery.
They fit the snuggest of Sony or Phillips, and the inline volume is really awesome! You can just knock out the volume if you need to talk to someone and then kick it back quickly without having to take them out and go through the hassle of putting them back in.
If you are going to spend less than $80, these are the earbuds for you!
Only if you are willing to invest in high-end SURE's or Sennheiser's will you get a better sounding product.
(A hint to the new user's of "in-ear" earbuds: Put on the smallest of the three included silicon ear-buds. Place the silicon earbud at the entrance of your ear canal with the "arm" (in this case the green part) of the headphone pointed towards your chin. Now, as you push the earbud into your ear canal twist the arm to point straight down, aligning it correctly in your ear. You should feel the silicon seat into the ear-canal and almost completely seal off the sounds around you. You now are ready to hear the music... be careful with the volume! There are a lot of studies of hearing loss in individuals using this type of headphone!)
