3 yrs ago, I bought an IPod Nano and was immediately taken with the sound and the uncomfortable fit of the standard Apple earplugs. I have like Bose speakers and product and so even though they were a little pricey at $99 I got them. They have great sound with awesome bass. But like some many others, the ear pieces fell off. I ordered replacements from Bose and they sent them free, all 3 sizes. The small and the medium fit ok but of course continued to fall off, mostly in airports where you can never find them. The large don't fit me as well but I superglued them on. I guess it is the silicon but even superglue doesn't hold them on.
I was on a trip this week and of course on the second leg of my trip, I got out my new Ipod Shuffle and left ear piece was missing.
I had passed a vending machine with an assortment of sony, skill candy and shure headsets and earplugs and immediately went over and bought the skull candy Full metal jackets. The sound is almost the same and the price was 1/3rd less. I took one of the spare buds from the Full Metal Jackets and stuck it on the Bose and it stays ok and sounds fine.
So now, the Bose will stay home where I can find the dropped earpieces and the skull candy will make the trips. I like the heavier wires that indeed don't tangle and the nice little bag that they come in so maybe the ear pieces will stay on. Time will tell about reliability but the sound is great.
I really can't believe I bought from a vending machine but the frustration factor at the start of a trip where I needed the earbuds for several hours over each of several days was just too great. So far, a good purchase.
