I bought this radio for my wife so she could relive the 70's. She is thrilled with it. Since she is not a techno geek- i.e. the controls need to be pretty straightforward, I wanted something that she would feel comfortable using. Otherwise, it would end up gathering dust on a shelf.
The Sportser 5 has the right balance of features and simplicity. She loves the display showing the Band, Title, and year. She also likes the radio display's ability to change colors. I set up the preset buttons for her, but she has the Sirius channel guide and has no problems finding the stations she wants.
I was able to hook up the car kit in just a few minutes. It works great for her. I bought a cassete adapter, which I like better than going through the FM Car Radio.
I also bought the boombox for her so she can use the radio around the house. It is working perfectly both in the car and at home.

I have been using this radio for over a year and it still keeps working. It is hooked into my car through the aux port to the radio, so I can make no comments on its RF rebroadcast power. There is no external interference while connected through the wire to the aux port. The big control knob is a bit flaky and hard to use while driving. I mostly listen to some select stations and store them as presets. This makes it easy to change with the remote. The antenna is mounted on the forward part of the trunk, as I do not have window trim to run the wire under. This radio has a bunch of cool features, that I don't use. Mostly, I can't be bothered to remember instructions for using other features. The back lighting does look sexy when placed against my blue dashboard lights.Customer Review: Much better than expected

purchased the Sportster5 to replace a Sportster in our 2001 Toyota Sequoia SUV. The vehicle kit is excellent and includes sufficient details on how to properly route the antenna wire through different vehicle configurations (sedan, SUV, PU truck). I strongly recommend that, if your vehicle radio does not have an AUX input, that you get the Wired FM relay to go with this (also available on Amazon). This is smaller than older models and the appearance and screen are top-notch. With the wired FM relay, I was simply stunned at the clarity and static-free signal that we received. I won't need to plan on purchasing a new in-dash for our Sequoia because this just gave our listening experience and options an extended life. Unit is much lighter. The vent mounting kit didn't fit my vents however I did find a convenient spot for it. The light weight made it feasible in a way the Sportster 2 wasn't. The controls are simple & consistent. The physical controls are responsive.
The jacks are on the sides of the base which can be inconvenient if you aren't mounting this in an elevated position.
The one disappointment was the DC-DC power adaptor, it is big. Other than that I'm quite pleased with sound quality & interface. I can't comment on the quality of FM broadcast feature however there it a button for it right on the front which would be convenient. The line out works perfectly.

This is my 3rd unit, and the first Sportster as the other 2 are Starmates. The dial is much better than the buttons for forwarding and advancing the stations. The background option matches almost any interior. The sports ticker is excellent and does not take up any memorized slots like it did on the Starmate. I had to tie it into the radio directly to get quality sound. The antenna is much nices as well being more of a silver dollar size and not the square. The only downside is that I had to get a bracketron to install ($20) and the buttons are quite small... other than that, it is excellent !
