Customer Review: Best external hard drive I have owned - at a great price
Summary: 5 Stars

After reading plenty of positive reviews on Amazon I purchased this drive for extra media storage and backup purposes. I previously owned a Seagate 250gb external hard drive. I did not have any major problems with it, but it was large, ugly, loud, slow at times, and could not be detected on Ubuntu Linux. I purchased the Simpletech Simpledrive and I have been using it for about 4 months now without a single problem. It was easily detected on every operating system I used it with (Windows XP, Mac OSX 10.4, Ubuntu Linux). It is quick, quiet, small, sleek, and lights up on the top when in use. What else can you ask for? Simpletech provides the best bang for the buck on external hard drives.

Customer Review: Works well
Summary: 5 Stars

Does what it's supposed to do. Quiet. Fast. Just one thing (pet peeve of mine, that's all) - the front doesn't have a light on it (lights are on top). I have my drive on top of my hutch, so I only see the front of it; with a quick glace I can't tell if it's powered on or not (again, it runs quiet). Other than that minor detail, it's great. I use this drive as extra storage. I have not tried doing a full backup or computer to computer file transfer, although I am sure it would work nicely for those applications. I recommend this unit based on the price I paid ($100.00). Shop by price when it comes to external drives. Happy computing!

Customer Review: Good Value
Summary: 5 Stars

I purchased 2 of these hard drives, a U35/500 and a UF35/500 (which has the Firewire connection), since they seemed to be good value for money. I have only had them a few months, but so far no problems. They installed easily on my computers (Windows XP) and the included software seems pretty straightforward. Initially, I thought there was a problem with the UF35/500 model, because when I switched it on nothing happened and there was no red light from the on/off switch. However, after about 10 seconds, the light came on and the drive spun into life. There is always a similar delay when I switch that machine on.

Customer Review: huge on hard drive and small on price.
Summary: 5 Stars

The reason that I bought this was so that I could add to my video collection and with this I am now able to make a huge collection and not have my computer and small external hard drive bogged down with all of my movies. For the purpose of storeing mass quantities of data this is a great buy since it is so cheep. I would say that if you don't have much data to store and need it to be trully mobile I would go with a smaller modle but for 500GB this is as small as they get at least for this generation of technology so I feel it is a great buy and I would recomend this to people who need this kind of thing.

Customer Review: Still the Best External Drive I've Ever Used After 2-Years
Summary: 5 Stars

I've had mine for nearly two years now and have never had the least bit of problem with it. Of course I'm not stupid enough to leave it running all the time and only turn it on a few times per month to back-up on like a normal human.

Most of these people giving this (not to mention just about every other hard drive) a bad review don't know how to use it properly. If you want to mess up an exteral USB drive and lose the memory stored on it, just try unplugging it, or turning off the power, without using the Windows "safely remove hardware" utility.
