Digital Cameras Photo Reviews of SiliconDust HDHomeRun HDHR-US Dual Networked High Definition Digital Tuner Device (White)

Customer Review: Just works
Summary: 5 Stars

The simplest way to describe this tiny little thing is it just works. I had BeyondTV PVR up and running within 15 minutes of receiving this unit and I hadn't even downloaded and installed BeyondTV yet! Yes, it is that easy to get the HD HomeRun working. Plug it in, hook up the cable, and use the software.

One thing of note. The product dimensions listed are for the box, not the unit itself. I bought a 2U shelf for this unit and when I took it out of the box it's about the size of a tiny four port network switch.

On the technical side, it uses about 20Mbps per HD channel. If you're using both tuners concurrently, that's 40% of your network's theoretical capacity. This shouldn't be an issue for most people, but it is something to consider when setting up your network.

Customer Review: HDHomerun Yessir
Summary: 5 Stars

Wow, this product has met and exceeded my expectations for a dual tuner. First and foremost, do your homework: This is not, I REPEAT, is not suited for cable channels. The HD Homerun tuner only allows for over the air (antenna) and clear QAM channels. If you know this before making this purchase, you will most likely enjoy your new tuner.

It is nice to have a networked tuner, this allows for you to not worry about having your tuner installed in your computer. I use my tuner with Comcast basic cable and the picture quality is top-notch! Set-up is relatively easy, help can be found online via YouTube and other forums. I use Windows 7 and Media Center to watch tv, no problems whatsoever. On sale for 89.99, don't hesitate, which I would have purchased it at this price. This is a no-brainer.

Customer Review: Good product if you know what you're doing
Summary: 5 Stars

I've used mine for about 4 months now. The unit itself and the concept of a network tv receiver are amazing. I have basic cable and I feel this is the correct unit for getting highdef Clear-QAM channels through your cable provider. My only problem is with the state of clear-qam as a technology. I'm able to pickup many channels but some are not automatically identified in windows media center and required me to watch the channel for a while to figure out what station it is. I also still use an NTSC receiver as most basic cable channels aren't available on clear-qam. If you're tech savvy and have your NTSC needs met, I would recommend this. After reading some of the reviews on this site I'm going to make sure my cables and splitters are rated properly. That may be why I have some problems.

Customer Review: Fabulous product, just works
Summary: 5 Stars

In order to satisfactorily replace FIOS TV I needed some way of providing 2 tuners to networked Media Centers. The HDHomeRun seemed to fit the bill and has solid reviews.
Now that I own one I can fully understand why it gets so many plaudits. I attached the device in less than a minute, installed the software, scanned for channels in Media Center and that was it, done. All channels are available in outstanding quality across all networked Media Centers. In addition to being a breeze to install it has needed no ongoing maintenance, it just works silently.
It's also a simple, small form factor and fits easily into a concealed location. Now I get local channels and free internet TV like Hulu wherever I want them for almost nothing, a huge saving over Cable/FIOS.

Customer Review: Excellent Tuner
Summary: 5 Stars

I've owned the HDHomerun for two years now and it has been excellent. For maybe three months I used the QAM (High Def cable) capabilities until I decided to go strictly with 8-VSB (ATSC - High Def Over-the-air). This tuner does not capture analog signal, but I don't need this as HDTV is most certainly preferable. I don't know why the other reviews have had issues, apart from the Mac user, but I've used this tuner in Windows XP well enough. However, I made a linux box running Mythdora, essentially utilized as a DVR. This set up works great. I highly recommend the HDHomerun. I am considering purchasing another unit so I might be able to record four shows at once. Currently I can record two High Def shows.
