Digital Cameras Photo Reviews of SiliconDust HDHomeRun HDHR-US Dual Networked High Definition Digital Tuner Device (White)Customer Review: Great customer support Summary: 5 Stars
Got this dual HD tuner over a year ago. It was pretty simple to set up and to integrate with Windows Media Center. Also, the software is continually being improved. Any problems that I did have were always answered in the SilconDust forums.
That was until last week. I thought the tuner had gone bad, since it was no longer recording on one particular channel (and my TV tuner had the same channel). I sent an e-mail off to customer support and to my surprise they answered the next morning. They had me run in diagnostic mode and had a solution for me within an hour. It turned out that my signal strength wasn't high enough. Changed how I split my signal and things started working immediately. Comcast probably reduced the signal strength for the channel that gave me problem.
Anyway, I had to write this review, since it was so refreshing to get an immediate response to my e-mail. One that wasn't a boilerplate, and one the actually solved my problem. Kind of restored my faith in customer service.
Customer Review: solid and dependable Summary: 5 Stars
I have been using this device for over a year now and feel safe suggesting that is a great product for OTA recording via Windows Media Center. I tried a TV tuner card, but that didn't work with my hardware, being a major annoyance while tinkering or on the phone with support. As an external card, this device eliminated any compatibility concerns, running perfectly over my Cat5e wiring. I have not seen any bandwidth problems at any time during the year. In fact, I often forget I have it until I spot it on a shelf.
I have my media PC downstairs, connected via cat5e to an upstairs antenna fed through the HDHR. The signal is fantastic and could only be improved by using a better antenna, or possibly elevating the current one. I was completely set up and recording in under an hour, including antenna adjustment. Given the limited number of channels, I have stayed with just one HDHR; however, I would add another one or two, should the need arise.
Customer Review: One time setup for free and easy TV Summary: 5 Stars
We have one of these running in one house hooked up to a SageTV DVR unit, running without issue for about 2 years now. Unit works perfectly.
We recently purchased another for a different house and used Windows 7 Media Center to record our HD over the air TV. It works equaly well on this setup as it has on the SageTV.
The trick to setup is to follow the instructions, which are all of 4-5 points. Software installs easily, we've always picked the option to download the latest version. It scans for changes, has a little single indicator to help you dial in your bunny ears. With that setup you go into Media Center and it's already there. Let it scan to find the channels, and download the program guide and you're off to the races.
We cannot say enough about this product. It's better than the cards you install into the boxes, both by price and easy of scaling.
Customer Review: Great product at good price Summary: 5 Stars
SUMMARY: I have had this product for over a year now. I use it with windows media center for Vista and the product works great. The SiliconDust web site was very helpful getting me set up and running. It has all the latest firmware and software you will need.
My TV over the air TV antenna was not located near where I have my PC so I needed something that I could put near my TV Antenna and communicate over a network to my PC. I have the LinkSys Media Center Extender and the HD HomeRun located near my TV and the PC is in another room completely. I have a hardwired network in the house so there are no network issues. My TV has an HD tuner, so I can actually record 2 programs and watch a third program.
I have had absolutely no issues with this product and it has worked great for me for over a year now. I recommend it.
Customer Review: Overall very good product! Summary: 5 Stars
I had an Asus internal tuner in my HTPC, but it is very fussy about signal quality & of course it can only be used on that machine. The HDHR seems a bit pricey, but consider that you get 2 tuners in one & if you have several computers (5+ in our house) any computer can use them across the network so it's like having a tuner in each computer but you only buy one! The tuner is also much better than the internal card, far less dropouts & faster locking in.
I had some unrelated networking trouble (belkin router) & their tech support was helpful, but this is their weak point since tech support is all online & response time is like 24hrs/reply so don't expect instant support. This is actually far better than the tech support I got with my Asus internal tuner, their responses took days & they didn't have relevant answers.
