Digital Cameras Photo Reviews of Shure E2c Sound Isolating EarphonesCustomer Review: The best I've ever had Summary: 5 Stars
On the sound isolation, the first time I put these on and started listening to music, I annoyed people because they were talking to me and I couldn't hear them. I fly allot too and the sound isolation works very well. On planes it does get significantly quieter with them.
On the sound quality, I hear nuances in the music that I did not know where there. The sound quality is amazing and very balanced. Of note, that these are not "hot earphones" that is to say you won't hear the boom boom boom that hides other parts of the music...unless there's allot of bass in the original composition. There is definitely a discernible difference between these and any cheaper headsets.
On looks, they do stick out a bit from my ears (little cones) but I've never been concientious or into the coolness so I don't much mind. The e3c and higher models seem a bit more compact but haven't tried them. They're comfortable and fit well from day one but it did take me a bit to get used to them.
I first used my Shures with a cheap mp3 player and i noticed a tremendous improvement over standard earbuds. Recently, I got a 5th gen iPod and the sound quality is now just wonderfully amazing. In very noisy environments, I can hear subtleties in my music where before I just heard bass and vocals. In quiet environments I am just floored and sincerely hear things I'd never heard before...I continously tell myself, "I didn't know that drum was there, trumpet, or other precussion." Try these in a quiet room and be amazed.
I can't imagine what the higher end models can do but I don't have to discern for a single violin in an orchestra so I probably won't get a higher end set but then again...who knows. These are turning me into an audiophile.
Customer Review: Shure-ly an Excellent Investment!! Summary: 5 Stars
I purchased the Shure E2c headphones about three months ago with some reservations. It seemed like these headphones were rather expensive, especially because they don't feature any type of noise canceling technology. The design seemed very rudimentary, and they looked uncomfortable. Boy was I wrong!
Being a frequent traveler (especially by plane) I was dying for something better than the noise canceling headphones I was using - and the E2c's were the answer!
I was floored using the E2c's for the fist time! While listening to my iPod at a low volume, my friend had to YELL for me to hear anything he said! These headphones are more effective than earplugs because while they are blocking external noise, they are supplying music or audio that you WANT to hear, thereby further superceding any ambient noise. What's more, when using the E2c's, I typically keep my iPod value 60-70% lower than with my noise canceling headphones, allowing my iPod battery to last 30% longer. The E2c's are nearly perfect for eliminating the irritation and stress associated with any public area. Especially airports, bus stations, and Starbucks!!! I also use these headphones frequently at cafes to avoid distraction and help me concentrate on whatever I'm doing.
The only negative I can think of is that some people might find the different types of fittings (foam and rubber) a little uncomfortable at first, but you will easily get used to this after a week or two.
Bottom line...If you can't stand hearing: 1) A baby crying on an airplane, 2) Loud people who talk too much on the subway, or 3) Distracting noise while reading at a cafe, the Shure E2c's are perfect for you! These headphones are worth every penny!
Customer Review: These E23S work well I'm pleased Summary: 5 Stars
I just received my E2C's and I'm quite pleased. I am not an audiophile, but do like decent sound. These these sound great. I have decent bass, better than the ipod earbuds, better than any standard ole headphones. I bought these primarially to block out jet airplane noise, and they block out noise much like foam earplugs do, the kind that you get at the hardware store. My goal is to block engine noise, listen to music at same time, not lug bulky large Bose headphones, and have decent sound. I am very satisified. I diligently followed the instructions on how to wear, ie. use the largest Foam inserts, position wire over the ear ad instructed, pull up on ear when installing, hold in deep for 15 seconds, and to me they sound great. Decent bass, mids and highs are amazing. Crisp. If you really want booming deep bass, you gotta crank em up loud. But no phones will sound like your home system. I compared sound playing using Pink Floyd's "Us and Them" from three sources: my computer, my ipod, and my Dell Pocket PC. I discovered that the computer sounded best, as I was able to tweak the bass up using WMP 11's equalizer. For my PPC my version of Pocketmusic's equilizer was not working. Thats when I noticed not as much bass, but after a reinstall of the software, I got the equilizer working, now with a little cranked up bass, these sound great. I'm playing .MP3s ripped at 192 kbit. The ipod sound was the worse of all three, I think due to it having the lowest sampling rate on the song. I was originally worried that I should have bought the more expensive E3C's at $150, but for my needs these E2Cs work fine for this business traveller. I need noise blocking, and a small package over "perfect" sound. Lets now see how they hold up to wear and tear.
Customer Review: Excellent Earphones !! Summary: 5 Stars
These are my second earphones I've ever purchased, however after careful research and comparisons, the E2C's are the best value/quality match !
The highs are crystal clear, and if seated properly ( which took about 15 minutes of twisting and tinkering the first time ) the bass is awesome. I can feel the bass in my head.
And 3d sound effects "spatialize" as good as my Pro Surround sound headphones.
I use these specifically on my Computer w/t an Audigy 2z card. I have noisy neighbors so these help me from getting into a fit of rage and putting my foot up thier arses ! <--- just kidding. But seriously, if noise isolation and quality sound is what you want, don't get noise canceling headphones, get these or comparable Earphones and you don't have to bang on the walls or flatten your neighbors tires ! hahah, just kidding again. I'm not from the ghetto, but my FOB neighbors don't understand the word courtesy and I think they're Communists ! Serious yo hey ! They're from China and don't quite understand the subtle nuances of Democracy yet, but enough about them,... get the E2C's and you won't regret it. They come with different size earplugs in foam or silicone so if you have a really, Really fat head like my Chinese ( it's okay I'm chinese too, so I can say this stuff ! ) communist neighbor that makes all kinds of noise when your trying to study, then these are the Earphones for you.
Thanks for reading my review.
Sxean
PS. These Earphones actually changed my life, I no longer react when my Fat Chinese neighbor trips over his fat feet, because I no longer hear the wall cracking thump noise. haha ! But serious, for a mere $89.00 these are the best !
Customer Review: Superior quality sound with excellent isolation Summary: 5 Stars
Initially post purchase the immediate looks are daunting - more like a hearing aid. The earphones do require "getting used-to".
I would sincerely advice any prospective buyers to give this earphone set a "break-in" period. Somehow, with the passage of 4 to 5 listening rounds, the sound DEFINITIVELY got better. The quality of sound is above par. In terms of noise isolation : it is THE best.
The looks however, leave a lot to desire. I personally feel Shure could have done a better job. It looks like a hearing aid!
A word about wearing it - it should and must be worn placing the cord BEHIND the ear-lobes. Then it is very easy to fit the earphones. Otherwise, you'll spend precious minutes before starting for office figuring out the correct way to wear them!
There are comments about the bass quality. 1 thing I have realized. If you want good bass which is very artificially created go for cheaper ones. If you want TRUE bass, just like the author of the music composition you are hearing wanted them to be: go for Shure. It does NOT try to artificially enhance bass. Period. One can always put the earphones a bit more into the ears and bingo .. a really terrific bass experience occurs.
Finally, although Shure is silent about all the technical details, listening to tough sounds have given me the confidence that it is quite professionally built. Have tried 3c too. But, the jump in cost does NOT qualify 3c over 2c. Look at the bottom-line ... these are used with MP3 players. With 99% of all MP3 players running not more than 256 bits -- does anyone possibly think 3c will give a BIG jump? No ... if you're listening directly from a CD/DVD player .. yes -> 3c or 5c is the best option.
